No info or hint of Spears :(

Post » Fri Jun 15, 2012 4:02 am

Spears where shown in the Gamejam. I was hoping they would be in DawnGuard. It would be awesome to pike vamps with a spear.

I guess Crossbows where easy since they integrate straight into Archery. And if Spear weapons where to be added in then all players who reached maxed level would be out of luck to get spear perks.

No spears or flails until level cap gets raises I guess.

It really wouldn't be too smart for Bethesda to put in everything from the Game Jam right away.

Why is everyone hung up on bloody spears? They're not even decent weapons.

Dawnguard has a huge amount of stuff to do already. Do we really need spears in this particular expansion?

I'd say yes. Up close melee combat with a Vampire Lord looks like something you're better off avoiding (probably why the Dawnguard have crossbows). Spears would be a good way of being able to fight melee style but still maintain a decent distance from this new threat.

It's called options you could use them if it suited your character, I would also like flails I had a character that used spears. From the looks of it a lot of people have used them I would also like shorter swords for my weaker characters.

Like others, my guess is they will be in the next dlc. It's just good business sense, if anything.

By why do you think so? Remember that the game jam week happened long before they released that video and some features from it (mounted combat, magic and archery finishers) had already been released by then. They may not appear in dawnguard but they may in patches maybe even before dawnguard!

I fully expect to see several more things from gamejam added in threw patches which is fine by me as long as we keep getting our bug fixes this game needs them bad.
Bigger things like seasonal changes might be added in in an expansion and I think they will hold off on spears until the next expansion as well.

I did. In fact, polearm and throwing weapons along with crossbows were pretty much the only things I used in Morrowind...
They looked pretty polished in the gamejam vid, but from a business perspective, it would make sense for them to put them in as a selling point in a future expansion. I mean come on, people have wanted them back since Oblivion and if you don't play on a PC and mod them in, what can we do but request. And request. And request and request.

They could fit them in under 2 handed. nice if they added multiple polearms no just spears. halbards would be great. I used them on one of my morrowind characters and i really enjoyed them

Meh, I don't mind waiting untill the next expansion. I'm hoping most of the gamejam ideas will be implemented into that one.

I'm all for spears. I use them in every game I play. How about we all pass a petition for them and send it in?

I agree with your entire post, I also used throwing items it suited my nightblade well in Morrowind. I would also line pole arms besides spears that could be used for my characters who are of a more agile nature or for those that are more suited to use them like a mage or alchemist or something of that nature.

Hmm... thinking about how one would go about putting spears and flails in... could you make it so they both have really good range, then make:

Spears 2handed, affected by sword (bladed weapon) perks.
Flails 1handed, affected by mace perks.

Make them slower to attack than Swords/flails and add anims. It does degrade both weapons involved a bit and relies on factors about the weapon making up for the re-used perks but it seems the only way.
