install on non c drive : Fallout: New Vegas

ok whats up? my c drive is a small ssd, i want to install on my e drive with a ton of room, but its not giving me the option to do it, man midnight launch and already a problem!

oh im installing from a dvd install from gamestop

ill try uninstalling steam from c and put it on e

Before you do that, you can use a junction to have your steamapps folder live somewhere else.

First, move the folder where you want it. Then, use junction to "link" the folder steam expects to where you moved it.

really such a stupid installer, id like to choose which drive i install to thank you very much steam,

thanks for the pointers, but uninstalling and reinstalling to e did it,

sigh im a total steam noob

Yeah - the fact you can't choose where to install games is one of the stupidest design decisions I've ever heard of, but it's that way with all Steam/Steamworks games. It's like Valve never heard of people have multiple hard drives or wanting their games to be in an easily-accessible location rather than deep within their program's directory structure. *sigh*

Indeed. That you need to be aware of some obscure thing like NTFS Junctions to work around it is pretty... silly.

I was also sad. I installed Steam onto my C drive SSD and not onto by D drive Intensive Games SSD. I have enough space on C drive though so perhaps later when I have more time I will re-install Steam onto the game drive SSD and not the OS drive SSD if that's possible.

Install steam on the other HDD, they can't enable you to move applications without a major headache to everyone due to the way Steam works, if they did there'd be a host of bugs and heaps of people would be like "OMG ITS BUGGY" instead of "OMG I HAVE TO CHANGE WHERE STEAM IS INSTALLED"

Pro tip: transfer steam.exe and steamapps to other drive, connect to the internet, double click on steam.exe. You'll thank me later.
