Install NV without updating Civ V?

Post » Tue May 03, 2011 7:01 am

I want to install Fallout New Vegas, but I want to avoid updating Civ V since I don't want the changes in the latest patch. I play offline with my internet connection disabled for security reasons (such as avoiding having Steam accessing the internet without my permission). Unfortunately FNV is a Steam game, and I'm sure that if I try to install the game, Steam will try to force the patch down my throat.

Is there any way to avoid this?

NOTE: I will crosspost this on the Steam forum, but I'll update this if I get an answer there.

Rename the Civ V folder. Install FNV.

After it's all said and done and you are back in offline mode, rename the Civ V folder back to it's original name.

P.S.

You can copy Civ V's folder elsewhere for any "Oh poop" moments as well. Then it's as easy as copy/paste to get back to that build.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll try it...and my new external 2 TB drive will help with the "Oh poop" possibility.
