Sorry if this has been asked a zillion times, I haven't been around here for a while.
I read a while back that an internet connection was neccessary for Vegas, I think
so it could check if it was an original copy? Does anyone know if it does this,
and if so, if it does this every time I want to start the game?

Thing is, I don't have an internet connection yet and it will probably take another
month or more (don't ask) before it will be set up. So my collectors edition will be
here next week and it might take a month before I'll be able to play. If it only needs
internet once, I can just take my system to my folks and run it there once. But
if it needs internet every time, I'm in trouble.

Can anyone answer my question(s) for me? Thank you in advance

I heard that all you need to do is connect once and activate it on steam. You can then play offline mode.

You only need the interent connection when you install your game. I believe you are talking about the PC and Steam correct? So once you install the game, and it is activated, you have to make shure how to put Steam in "Offline" mode. I don't use Steam much and never put it in "Offline" mode so maybe someone here can tell you how to do it.

I will play on the 360, so I don't have to worry about this.

yes you need to use steam they set up steam for there dlc content so you have to activate the game thru steam for console gamers im guessing you have a security code you have to input to unlock game or it has to be checked by steam via xbox net or win live dunno what one it has been confirmed ya have to do this once the first time you play after that you dont need to anymore

Sadly yes, you need to deal with Steam, otherwise you will not be able to install your game. Also if you ever want to patch up your game, you have to go through Steam to patch New Vegas. People say once the game is isntalled, and activated, all you need to do is put Steam in offline mode and then you don't have to worry again.

Sadly this was also said for people who play Civiliazation V, and they have problems playing in offline mode. Not all, but some. Hopefully you will not have this problem, but keep this in mind though. So can you move your computer to where there is an internet connection so you can at least install and activate it?

Honestly dude I would love to get this for the 360 but I do like Mods for these games.

Well good for you. Just make shure you know how to put Steam in "offline" mode. If you turn it off, New Vegas when you start it, will just turn Steam back on, so make shure Steam is set for "Offline" mode all the time. How this is done, I am not shure. If you do not know how, please ask then.

Uh...Steam is for PC only. 360 will use Xbox LIVE and PS3 will use PSN for DLC(pre-order bonus in this case) distribution.

Oh, I dont know if this will work with NV but with FO3 (STEAM version) I dont need to use STEAM anymore. I just went into the folder and used the game file and now I can open it without STEAM, same thing works with COD4 steam.

New Vegas code was written with Steam in mind when being made, so Steam is intergrated with New Vegas, just like it is for Civilization V. So unless you are on the 360, or PS3 you need Steam to play New Vegas. You can't get around it. Well there is a way, but we can't say because of forum rules.

IIRC you open up the Steam launcher and put it in Off-line mode and/or you just activate the game exe directly

Glad we were able to help. Remember if you see a patch out, you will need an interten connection so Steam can install it for you. You just can'tget a patch like the "old days" and install it seperately.

That may or may not work. It's more safe to set it to offline mode while it is online. So after you have activated the game, just go Steam's File menu, and select "Restart in offline mode", that's a fool proof method. Also, when you log in to your account, make sure to check "Store log-in info on this computer" (or was it "uncheck Do not store log in info on this computer"? :unsure:) otherwise offline mode won't work.

I'll just have to take it back to my folks or a friend's if my own connection isn't set up by then, thanks again!
