Internet required on startup?

Just thinking to myself here...I currently don't have an Ethernet cord that will reach to my tv/xbox.

Are there any patches/content I will be missing if I am not connected to Live when I play my first game tonight? If so, what will I be missing?

Hopefully I won't have to buy a 20 FT Ethernet cord...

Move your comp. You only need to activate the game then you will never need it again

No, dude. There are no updates yet that would require you to be connected to XBL.
There most definitely will be, and it would only be speculation when they'll hit.
Maybe a week, maybe a month.
