Internship

has anyone gotten an internship before?

i am a junior in college and would really like to get an internship over the usmmer so i can have some real world experience, make some money and have something good to put on my resume.

I have heard that an internship is one of the best things to do in college to give yourself a better chance at landing a solid job when you graduate.

i went to one job/internship fair and it was alright and i talked to a few recruiters but i didnt land an interview anywhere. i know i did not do as good as i should have at this thing.

however there is another fair coming up soon and i would like to do better this time. Any advice on what i should say to recruiters? what do they like to hear?

I am a business finance major BTW

I was going to try to get an internship at CCP when I finished school but I doubt that'll happen now since they just fired 20% of their staff :P

I'm just a freshman but I want to try and get an internship sometime in the near future. I received an email from one of my professors telling us that Apple is doing on campus interviews for internships. One of the requirements is having a BS in computer science which I don't understand why she sent the email to us in the first place being that we're only first years... I'll have a talk with my other professor tomorrow to clear things up though.

Go do some research on the web to see what companies are hiring interns for your degree. Try talking to them if you can but apply anyway even if you can't (bigger ones, such as Google, Amazon you can apply online). Don't ignore smaller companies, I know people who have got internships at companies of 15 people.

Prove to them that you are motivated, have some good ideas, and ask them what their favorite kind of coffee is. Another thing to do is make a personal relation with the person. When they hire an intern they want a person and not some robot. Charisma is one of the most important things a person can have in the business world.

You're going to have a lot of trouble getting a paid internship. You're gonna have to do some volunteer internship at whatever major thing you're in, then when you apply for paid internships your can have a colorful history with free internship. You need to build up experience from the free internships so you can actually look like you're worth paying when you get a paid internship.

Er, yeah, if you wanted money for an internship, there might be your problem.

Nowadays you make friends and network, get your foot in the door, climb over a bunch of coasting employees and see how high you go.

The hardest part in most industries like gaming is getting your foot in the door.

In this economy, you can expect most internships to be unpaid positions.

While the lack of income will hurt, the job experience will do wonders for your resume.

I started at my current place of employment as an intern while I was still going to school (the school actually found me the job as part of a work-credit program). Today I am the Director of IT Operations. Internships are great.

This, and act/look professional. Treat the fair as if it was a proper job interview - look presentable, have your resume polished, all that good stuff. Do some research beforehand on the companies you'll be talking to so that you can tailor your approach to your needs and can ask them specific questions. That shows them that you're interested in working with them, rather than landing any internship for the sake of it (even if the latter may be true).

Your college should also have its own career development office, they can probably help you with all of the above and clue you in on other internship opportunities in the area.

I'm currently 3 months into my internship (Though we call it a placement). Once I'm finished I'll go back to finish my final year at Uni, then maybe my masters if I can stand it.

I'm enjoying my placement though, learnt more in 3 months than I have in 2 years of University. Will look nice on my CV as well.

The most professional people I know.. they do not "look" professional at all, head to toe looking like average Joe's. But I guess that's a perk of being a professional
