My mom turned 50 today and we bought her an Ipad for her birthday. I do know a lot about computers but I don't know the first thing when it comes to handy/neat apps for the ipad.

Heres a few things to know about my mom:

• She likes to read
  
• She likes to cook
  
• She doesn't like sophisticated games but appreciates simple ones like brick breaker
  
• She likes to communicate with relatives
  
• She enjoys watching movies, listens to motown (michael jackson) and old funk (Prince)
  
• She likes to bake a lot
  
• She sews when she has the time

I want this Ipad to be her own computer as much as I can, so rather than taking it from her and searching for stuff myself, i'd simply like to suggest looking for an app every so often. That way she'll familiarize herself with the interface.

So does anyone know any relevant Ipad apps I can download for her? Any cool ones that could wow her or show off the abilities of the ipad?

For the cooking and sewing, might be worth while looking to see if the relevant TV channels and Magazines have apps.

If I remember correctly, Apple promotes their own e-book service, ibook.

As to which one is better, I do not know.

They do promote iBook, but stuff on the Kindle app, in the UK at least, is generally cheaper; they also have a wider range, and can be used on other devices - including your PC.

Get her the Pandora so she can listen to her own custom internet radio stations.
