Iron Weapons and Armor

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 9:36 pm

I'm going to start a character that is only going to wear and use Banded Iron Armor and a Iron Sword through out the game. What are some ways to maximize the effectiveness of the iron gear in Skyrim?

Lots of Smithing o.o

I have to admit though, Iron armor is just about my favorite Armor in the game, other than that I just wear clothes or robes :D

Me too . There is something about the look of the lower tier gear in the game that I like. I heard vaguely that you can use enchanting and alchemy along with smithing to basically become a god in Skyrim.

I like iron (and leather) armor, too. Depending on the character I'm with, sometimes that's all he or she will wear, is the cheap stuff. When my Nord fighter first tried on a suit of Elven armor, he immediately threw it off in disgust! Made him look like a dandy, it did! He much prefers his iron.

Here's a tip: I would get into enchanting. As the game levels up, the problem with iron is it eventually isn't as effective against the stronger enemies you'll encounter. I would try enchant your armor to keep it up-to-par. I haven't tried this myself, so I'm not sure how effective it is. But that's where I would start.

And, obviously, the Heavy Armor perks also come in handy.

Thanks for the tip.

I second this. Enchanting, smithing, the heavy armor perks (Juggernaught and Matching Set) will keep your iron armor feasible, and Armsman for your iron sword to keep it dealing decent damage.

actually- you need the smithing SKILL, but you wont need smithing PERKS, might keep that in mind.

Enchant of course (unless you want to slowly accumulate your own smith gear- which is possible)

The iron sword is one of the best looking weapons in the game, I used one for a long long time- it is a shame the fancy weapons get less and less "believable" IMO.

If you go with a sword, you'll probably get guards telling you to upgrade all the time. I spied a guard bark to that effect while perusing them once.

Use alchemy and poisons to make your iron sword more effective. Master alchemists do not need much else. Just level you Crafting skills essentially and you will no longer need to worry about anything in game unfortunately. Lucky I got mods.
