Issue with laying floor

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 8:26 pm

Right so I am still kind of new to this, and I know there are pieces that all fit together, but most are interchangeable, like you don't need to go 1, 2, 3 etc in order, a lot are interchangeable to make big places in your cell. I got that and the sets, but I am having an issue with my cave, I also know that say I am laying my cave, but i use pieces from a different cave kit and try to put it on another cave kit. I know I can use rocks etc to cover the parts that "aren't there", and I'll show you what I mean.

Here is my cave that I am building -> http://oi53.tinypic.com/117widz.jpg

Now when you zoom in, you see what I am talking about -> http://oi53.tinypic.com/2i09j5x.jpg

When I mentioned covering these "holes" with rock, I was talking about BIG holes that if not covered you could possibly fall through, but these... I don't quite know what to do, and as you can see that cave room is decently big and its not like a Vault flooring, straight and flat, these have wavy edges. Damn caves.

Anyone have any tips? Is there a way to smooth it out in GECK? This cave kit only has 3 types of floors (CaveRoomMid01 -02 -03) So any help is appreciated.

Outdoor rock ledges at an angle work well in my experience.

Aside from that, no, there is no way to 'smooth it out' in Geck. Such things can only be done in 3d Editing programs for the most part, as it requires manipulating the model directly.

Does GECK contain any dirt piles? Like nothing to specific, just a few dirt textures would be fine. because the gaps in my floors arent few and far between, they are all over the floor, the pic i showed only showed a couple, but moving the camera around you see lots of them. The only way i can see getting around this would be a dirt pile, in some places rocks. I plan on having an NPC or two down there and its going to be filled with beds etc, so these holes need to be filled. As well when i COC'd in to the map, you can see all those gaps, and it looks ugly.

Use the filter to search for items with the key words 'rock' and 'rubble' under the Static Objects, and you should find some things that should fill the voids.

I knew about rock, but not rubble, thanks.

I haven't used them much, but cave pieces should piece together seamlessly if you don't rotate them after adding, I'm fairly sure. This is why they have four different 'corner' assets, and such. Seemed to work for me with the small section I did.

As to using outdoor rock wall assets instead, I do like the effect/uniqueness of using them to make your own more natural caves, but I don't know if I'd say it *reduces* the number of gaps you have to deal with ;)

Well I do like using the rocks too, my cave so far looks pretty decent, and if i bring in a huge ass rock, place it where the textures aren't meeting up (thus creating the "holes") then yea it would be covered up and the player wont get caught on it, or fall through.

Edit: Haha "Rubble has saved my marriage!!" No really, this is exactly what i needed! thanks for the help guys.
