its impossible to make a rogue character with stealth

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 12:08 am

sneak and stealth is just to worthless. the enemys spot you far to easily even at night when youre in light armor. on top of that the entire town or group of enemys know where you are as soon as you attack. ive even used silenced weapons and that didnt work very well. i want to use whatever weapon i feel like using anyways. stealth should be more how stealth boys function. or actually make shadows and night time useful.

No it doesn't?

With 60 sneak and ratslayer on very hard and hardcoe, I wiped out every single person in Freeside without drawing aggro once. (well, at least until my rep went down to HATED). Then I reloaded an old save and proceeded to continue playing my "Paladin."

I don't know, my sniper toon has a sneak skill of 100 and earlier today I sneaked up on some jackals or whatever they are called, they were just stood behind a billboard waiting for some poor smuck to come along, anyway they all had their backs to me so I just strolled up(well sneaked)and dumped a C4 charge right behind them, retreated to a safe distance, and BOOM! :nuke: This was in broad daylight as well.

Actually I feel like it's almost TOO necessary, sneak criticals are very necessary in fighting tougher enemies like deathclaws.

Do you leave your pipboy flashlight on? That screws with your sneak ability.

sneak definetly does work, very well infact. my sneak is only at 20 and i was able to get very close to the death claws at the quarry, it wasnt untill i fired a shot from my sniper rifle that they were even aware i was near them, and by then it was too late becuase i was bunkered into the rocks so safe that they couldnt reach me so i picked em off one by one.

edit: this was also in broad daylight.

Not that this has anything to do with this topic, but earlier today a whole mess of NCR Troopers (roughly 10-15) bugged on that invasion of Nelson and were all huddled together in front of the crucifixes, apparently all trying to run to the exact same spot and failing to because they were all in each others' way. Anyway, saved my game and planted C4 on the one closest to the center and detonated it... they went FLYING!! I considered downloading Fraps just for that, one guy flew beyond the draw distance... lmao.

Anyway, to the OP... sneak works just fine. It really starts to show once you get it above 50, otherwise it's going to seem fairly useless... also, get the Silent Running perk as soon as possible, big help if you intend to be in close proximity of your enemies. :ninja:

no, i've found that sneak is ridiculously overpowered. i have a high sneak and i can pretty much sneak right in front of people's eyes and they won't see me.

Stealth works fine imo. You need to stay out of line of sight, and either move at reduced speed while crouching, or have Silent Running and crouch. Also you need to try and kill them with one shot or they will come looking in your direction.

If anything sneak needs to be weakened, I can shoot somebody in broad daylight out of cover and if they're still alive after all they do is walk about 10 feet towards you and think "That was one heck of a bee sting" before going about their business.

I think sneak does need to be rebalanced a bit, it's crap for so long, then all of a sudden it's so good it's silly. I have max sneak and wear light, i can kill a two person patrol(eg like a legion guy and a dog) can kill both of them with melee without either one being alerted.

Btw does anoyone know a way to make it so my companions don't engage if i go to "caution" while sneaking. Gets annoying them running in when i'm trying to wait out a sneak. I'd even accept them not attacking at all over the current "don't attack until i attack"

Last night I cleared out Primm Casino, Primm NCR camp and Mojave Outpost with a silenced/scoped varmint rifle without drawing aggro. Sneak is overpowered.
