Its official... Dragons svck.

Post » Thu Jun 21, 2012 7:00 pm

So I just entered Solitude after going dungeon trekking (mainly to sell off loot) when an Elder Dragon starts circling.

Now as a bit of backstory, I'm someone who HATES NPC's dying if I can help it, I never use Followers because I'll fear they die (plus they aren't particularly helpful) So when this Elder Dragon starts picking off the citizens of Solitude I was like :shakehead:

By the time I killed it I had already lost Vivienne and Sorex Vinius as well as 4 Guardsman... Who at Bethesda thought Dragon attacks in major cities was a good idea? Eventually most non essential NPCs will be killed and for me, that's torture.

Sorry, just needed a rant.

That's how they roll. Burninating towns kind of goes hand in hand with dragons.

I like the fact that there is that risk factor about fighting them in the towns, i too hate the non essentials dying as most can provide radiant quests which can be fun, the only solution is i think they should have a ''flee'' AI mentality when dragons attack hell keep the guards out they respawn but the civilians should not draw a iron dagger and charge in, they should hide!

on the other hane you have 2 options here;

1) Fight
2) go outside the walls / inside a house and wait for 12 or so hours it should be gone with no havoc wreaked. atleast it works for me.

all in all im glad its there what i would hate even more is invincible NPCs inside towns when dragons come in there AI would tell them to charge in and thats it.

i wish they would also burn houses down if im honest. they can just get a construcion round them within say 6 hours of the attack ending then 1week after it could be rebuilt.

Burninating all the people!
In their thatched roof cottages!
THATCHED ROOF COTTAGES!

Thanks Korr, now I've got that song stuck in my head.

This is the reason I stopped doing the main quest on my characters till I was almost finished with other stuff. I was sick of fighting them every 2 minutes and killing off quest givers. So then I would have loads of dead end quests in my journal = LAME!!!....

Really? I think it is entertaining watching a normal citizen charging a dragon with a iron dagger, and then taking a short flight :D

For me it's a good thing knowing that at least some of the NPCs are in real danger. Otherwise the world is too quiet and peaceful given the current civil war and major dragon problem.

Although, the worst part is that a guard came up to me as I had my weapon drawn and arrested me for their murder.

Derg'ns are just cliff racers that happen to be more 'mainstream' so a wider audience would buy the game.

So you could say that cliff racers are hipsters.

How can people keep complaining about dragons being able to randomly kill any character?

That's the one non-debatable great thing about Skyrim. You can argue about horses, linear missions, perks, animations, whatever. But not that.

I had a couple of NPCs killed in Riverwood, including the smith who must have though he was The Dragonborn - Not.

But, I'm on the PC, so I resurrected them.

Let me steer you towards a thread I began not long ago. Seems we're like-minded on this.

That's the one non-debatable great thing about Skyrim.

Given the fact that it's been debated before, and it's now being debated again, then it can't be classified as "non-debatable."

I think the "fake" thing here is that almost all citizens charge those dragons like they are all fearless. Normal citizens should flee from a dragon.

Actually, I thought they would be gone after I finished the MQ. I mean, wasn't that kind of the point?? But I love fighting them and if they attack in a city, that's life, I guess!

the point was to save the world basically not to make the dragons extinct....that would svck. maybe make them more weary of human settlements but not extinct.

still no-one has mentioned you can just go inside a house or outside a town and wat for X amount of time for the dragon to fly off or despawn and you wont suffer.

I was recently in Riverwood when two dragons attacked simultaneously. After the carnage was over, I discovered the body of Camilla Valerius with the body of Sven lying partly on top of her. The way they were positioned gave the impression he had died trying to protect her. It was quite touching and I vowed my next character will help him against Faendal so his love may one day bloom

It wouldn't be so bad if the population of Skyrim wasn't so sparse to begin with. Over time, you can have 20 or 30 people killed by dragons, and it's like a third of the population!

Bandits, forsworn, and random mages respawn after a time. Why not ordinay citizens? I think they should have included a lot more people that were just random people in the cities and towns- no names, so they could respawn if killed. If nothing else, it would make the place seem more normal.

522 hours and i have only seen a dragon attack Riverwood and Darkwater Crossing once! As far as i'm concerned, dragon attacks in walled cities are a myth

Hell, random dragons are a nearly a myth in my game :swear:
