Jumping heightdistance and movement speed

Post » Tue Jun 05, 2012 11:06 pm

As some may know, movement speed and jumping ability is based off of the height of your character which is based on race. Due to Altmer (High Elves) being the tallest race, they are the fastest and jump the highest. This doesn't really make sense, because a smaller person would be more agile and a taller person faster, not a taller person being both.

Also, it would make sense in the two beast races where faster and could jump better than the other races.

The current standings from tallest to shortest are;

#1. Altmer (M & F) = 1.08

#2. Orsimer (M & F) = 1.045

#3. Nord (M & F) = 1.03

#4. Argonian (M) = 1.01

#5. Redguard (M) = 1.005

#6. Argonian, Bosmer, Redguard (F) + Breton, Khajiit (M) + Dunmer, Imperial (M & F) = 1

#7. Bosmer (M) = 0.98

#8. Khajiit (F) = 0.95

Note how Khajiits are near the very bottom ranks, despite being cat-like, which you would think they are very agile and quick. Also, most of the Stealth based races, like Khajiit, Bosmer, and Argonian, are some of the slowest and worst jumpers.

From my point of view, the movement speed and jump height should be based on the actual race itself, not the race's height.

The movement speed of the races should look more like this;

#1. Argonian
#2.
#3. Altmer
#4. Khajiit
#5. Orc / Nord / Redguard
#6. Bosmer / Dunmer
#7. Imperial
#8. Breton

The jumping height/distance of the races should look more like this;

#1. Khajiit
#2. Bosmer
#3. Imperial / Breton
#4. Dunmer
#5. Nord / Redguard
#6. Orc
#7. Argonian
#8. Altmer

Ones in BOLD I'm pretty sure about.
Ones in RED are just there to be on the list somewhere.
Ones that are NORMAL are just in a general positions.

Actually most of these are just in general, and subject to change, except for Argonian on the running speed (Liazards are pretty damn fast) and Khajiit on jump distance/height (this one is self-explanatory.)

I don't think this is exactly how it should be in game, and I haven't really thought of balancing reasons yet, I just did this as a general ranking of each race and what would kind of make sense. Excpet for Breton and Imperial. I have no f-ing clue where they should be ranked.

Also discuss about the current system is like whether it requires some change, or if you think it is mostly fine as it is. I am OK with how it is currently set up, but I don't like that Khajiits and Argonians are some of the crappiest, despite being the "beast" races.

No complaints from me, all races movement and agility are light years ahead of previous installments.

I'd like to agree with you, but basketball says otherwise. Tall people = High jumpers :)

PS I'd like it if the argonians and khajiit were faster on foot. Khajiit get a movement bonus, so should the argos.

I said taller people arn't as agile. However, they have longer legs giving them more leverage to jump high.

An Altmer not jumping high would look really odd. A really thin and elegant creature not being able to jump proportional to it's height would look odd, and because Altmer are so tall, that means they are going to jump higher than shorter races.

The earthly limitations are a joke and a slap in the face to the lore. Good thing console commands and mods fixed this and brought back the speed 'attribute' and acrobatics. Now for it to be in the vanilla game for console users.

They should've just handled it through perks, tying perks up so strictly with skills really limited them. No acrobatic or athletic skill would be fine, I don't think they should be skills on their own, but with the current system every perk has to fit with a skill. Fallout had a way better perk system, since they could put in all sorts of fun, general, weird perks without needing them to be related to a specific skill.

Or join athletics and acrobatics. Have the skill level of it effect Stamina, and the perks effect jump height, speed, stagger resistance, rolling, dodging etc.

Problem with this is how would they manage leveling it? Having it leveled by just spamming jump or running around would be lame, reason I really hate the way armor skills work right now(only way to increase on an archer/mage is just letting things beat on you intentionally). I'd be all for this if they had an experience system though.
