Jury rigging and the Holorifle.

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 6:01 am

It seems that even with jury rigging, it's impossible to repair the Holorifle with any other energy weapons, and is only able to be repaired via NPCs and weapon repair kits. Does anyone think this was intended or a mistake?

I've finished Dead Money, but I must have missed whatever the reason is. However I still think it's silly considering we can repair the Automatic rifle and other DLC weapons with Jury rigging, but not this one.

I think that the reason for it is that the Holo Security System is a one of a kind high-tech weapon, and the holorifle is something completely unique from Sierra Madre.
Even if your character is super smart and practically McGyver, this weapon might not be compatible with any other weapons thats out there.
...
Or it was overlooked. :)

Just use repair kits, they arent hard to make, just annoying if you want lots of them.

Probably overlooked, because by your reasoning unique weapons and armors in F:NV shouldn't be able to be repaired with common stuff.

Now that I think about it, how does the PC know how to repair a one of a kind prototype weapon with a repair kit? (Would the kit even have the right parts?)

It's actually from The Divide, if you listened to Elijah.

It doesn't really bother me, as in my opnion Jury Rigging is an over-rated and largely unnecessary perk.

There is a logic to making it un-jury-riggable though. The holorifle is one of the few truly unique weapons in the game. There are no other weapons that operate under its basic principles. There are no other weapons that do "holographic" damage (still don't know what that really means). So it kind of makes sense that even jury-riggers would have problems with it.

Well... That doesn't make a lot of sense.
I thought the Sierra Madre was unique in it's security because holograms had been perfected. Meaning: They are holograms capable of inflicting physical trauma(?).
What the hell would a piece of tech like this be doing in the grand canyon?

The Van Buren design docs stated that the Grand Canyon lost it's National Park status and became a strip-mined, over-industrialized, toxic waste stricken [censored]-hole. So it's as good as a place for a weapon to turn up as any.

Really?
Man I must read the design documents again, starting to forget stuff.
Thanks for the correction then. ;)

The Great Divide is the Grand Canyon. I'm not sure what the big empty is, apparently a location in Van Buren, and possibly future DLC.

I thought the Grand Canyon in Fallout was still called the Grand Canyon, since they reference it numerous times as where Joshua Graham was tossed in on fire.
