Just called Bathesda

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 12:45 am

I just got off the phone with Bathesda customer service and was told that the patch is still in the testing stages and not to expect it to be released for a couple more weeks still. Granted, these are low level employees who aren't privy to all the details, but they rep did say that if the patch was going to be live in the next couple of days they would be able to advise callers of that.

Here is the number for those interested in calling. 410-568-3685 then hit 8.

If the patch still has to go through certification at Microsoft then it will most likely be 1-2 weeks for that. If not, it could be sooner. Some people have asked on the boards how we know how long it takes for Microsoft to finish certification of a patch. What I can tell you is that when Borderlands was putting out a patch to raise the lvl cap the devs would routinely update the consumer either on their boards or via twitter. The devs advised that the patch was done, but would take 1-2 weeks to be certified by Microsoft. The release was pushed back a couple weeks, but as the dev said it was done in around two weeks and released on xbox. Using that as an example I would say 1-2 weeks is standard for certification.

The top guy's at Bethesda and Obsidian are currently on a vacation at some exotic tropical beach location having cocktails bought to them by hot bikini-clad babes......all paid for by everyone who bought Fallout: New Vegas. They are scooping up loads of fresh small graqes with wads of thick money notes and pouring them down into their mouths.

Bethesda*

Regardless, I didn't want this patch to be released to coincide with the first batch of DLC but it looks likely that this will be the case. Not saying it will be for definite, but thinking about it; adding new quests, areas and whatever is included with the upcoming DLC can also be added to the patch we are expecting, making it much easier. The only reason I do not like this as I've had the game sitting about for weeks now and havn't even started the game up. The DLC will be pointless to me for a month or two until I've finished all the on-disc game. Whereas with FO3, I could start each DLC as it was released as I had already finished the main storyline.

If I can remember, the Borderlands update was announced to be released within two weeks at the latest, but was pushed out on the first week. I hope this is the case for F:NV. It isn't the wait that bothers me, I have CoD:BOps, RD:R, FFXIII among many other games to play. It's the fact I see most of my friends plowing along on FN:V with little to no problems whatsoever! Still, I'm not willing to take the risk and will wait for this patch.

EDIT - Just read about the exclusive DLC, surely we won't be waiting until 21st December? I could be wrong, but who knows?

i've been trying to be quiet about this issue, but dang it if it takes another 2 weeks to get us a patch, i'm giving up on Obsidian...

we've been waiting since launch for this!!!!!

if they release the DLC before the patch release date, I'm never buying another Bethesda game, even Elder Scrolls 5..

I'm getting too old for this crap, i'd rather stop playing than be taken advantage of and not cared about as a customer...

times are tough in this economy, if they think people will forget this all and then spend more hard earned $$$ on another rushed incomplete game they are crazy..

Simmer down. I've logged over 200 hours into this game without any insurmountable issues. Yes, I've had killscreens. Yes, I've had to find a few workarounds and no, I should not have to. But good God, you guys complain like this game does not work. If that were the case, you wouldn't be posting frantically about it every 30 damned seconds.

Given past and current behavior, I'm sure we won't see even a partial patch until they release the DLC on December 21. No sale on the DLC, and no sale on future Bethesda games.

The reason they'll probably release patch around same time as dlc is because they know most people who are complaining about getting ripped off will still buy dlc immediately. Then just complain some more when that's buggy as he11 too. Everyone should wait until its definite that upcoming patch fixes the major issues and at least some of minor

Major patches require significant testing before release, this is standard procedure.

You need to relax. the guys a bethsada are probly recovering from a small heart attack they know these issues are gonna cause them alot of problems and are most likely one of the most important issues. the DLC was probaly in the works before the game was even released for them to have enough work done for them to anounce it this early. but that means their gonna be spending more time poslhing the bug out if before its realeased because of the heat their already getting. in turn will most likely mean the patch will be reasled a week or two before the DLC around the end of the month. which is good for thier business if because it will get people back into playing the game right before they drop thier dlc and make them even more money. that is if the custormer are willing to wait. but from what i can tell this is one hell of a game for people to actually sit around and wait for 2-3 week for a patch just so they can play it. good job bethsada you just found a new angle heres a little tease now wait for our dlc and we will actually let you play the rest of it. briliant.

A better response would have been, 'Dear customer, we are trying ever so hard to fix the minor little glitches in this truly immense, groundbreaking title, but, its your fault for buying it and expecting it to work.

Unfortunateley, all our software team are currently working hard to get the December DLC pack ready for you all to test for us, before more of you come back on here complaining that that has bust your game as well.

We released it early because we thought most people would just wrap it up for Xmas and we could patch it before then (only just) and nobody would notice.

Oh,have you tried loading an earlier save?

Now go away while i light this cigar with one of your £20 notes'.

I just called them again. The rep told me that patch is in the final testing and they are authorized to tell customers it will be released within the next two weeks. They could not tell me if it was being tested for certification or still being tested by them. Take it for what its worth I guess.

Thanks for the glimmer of hope. Maybe the patch will be out in less than 2 weeks, but if I believe what other wrote on this, the patch may be with Microsoft now getting their okay. I will still clear the cache often and not save too many different saves. Hopefully, I can finish and go through everything during the holiday vacation.

For some of us, it doesn't work at all. I'm one of those. If the game was working, I'd be playing it, not here lurking and reading about bugs and digging for any scrap of information on when the patch will be out, now wouldn't I? I've started over 30 times, some times I can't even get past the couch and the doctor. He'll say he dug in my brain, then just sit there. The few times I make it past his house, the aiming system freezes me. The farthest I ever made it was Primm, where I slept in the military tent and woke up with a female soldier STUCK TO MY CHARACTERS HEAD repeatedly trying to stand up and/or sit down, and they shot me for some reason as soon as I walked out of the tent. Then the last save there wouldn't load. Yes, for some of us it DOES NOT WORK.

The funny thing is. It doesn't work, I have the DLC glitch and all my files are corrupted so I can't play at all. I would start over but then it would just bug out again because it just happened to me randomly.

This could have also gone in one of the open threads. And Gstaff has already told us as much. Might have saved you the phone call. They can't give us a precise day because anything could happen to delay it and that would be reason for a super rant. They could have it planed for one day this week but could not tell us that since Sony, Microsoft or beta testers could all cause an unforseen delay.

Use an already open thread for this discussion please.
