Just can't justify killing Paarthurnax

Post » Fri Jun 01, 2012 1:05 pm

the blades are asking you to assassinate him illegally. if they wanted paarthurnax dead, they should hold him in a trial on a world court, not send 1 person to kill him.

Take a dragon to court? lol..

You are a dragonslayer. And this is a game about killing dragons. Not a game about holding dragons before a jury. It's not "illegal". It's what you do. That's why the blades ask you.

As if the Blades never killed people in the past. They relinquished their role of dragonslayers when they became emperor agents, dogs on a leash.

Bare in mind Paarthurnax has had five millenniums to contemplate his previous actions against society and had repented by aiding humans by teaching them the voice. He played a key role in the rise of Talos, the Greybeards who relied on Paarthurnax to teach them the ways of the voice summoned him. He later went on to conquer Tamriel and form an empire that had relative peace which was an indirect "good deed" of his if you will. He aids you twice in stopping Alduin from devouring the souls of the living and the dead, or enslaving them under Priest Kings like in the Dragon Cult days. It sounds to me all in all Paarthurnax hasn't an evil bone left in him, Kyne afterall called him to her service and he repented through that. It's easy to demonize and label him a monster because of his form or because of his history but do not forget how he made the coming eras possible without the winged beasts flying in the sky. Even the heros who stopped Alduin could not have done so in ancient times had Paarthurnaax not taught men the voice.

again a tread like this pops up, i said it once, i'll say it again, it is your choice. think of it like a star wars LS/DS choice
  • DS: killing him as you blindly kill him for past crimes
  • LS: Sparing Him as you show him mercy and that you are a reasonable dovahkiin.
(DS=dark side, LS=light side)

It's one thing to struggle with a moral dillema here. It's another to say what's illegal or not.

Be the damn dovahkiin. Make up your own mind what's right. You da man, dog. But this talk about illegality (not morals per se) and courts is silly.

Blades---we can ALL agree that these are NOT really the Blades. They do not serve or protect the dragonborn like thier sworn OATH instructs them to do. I think my Main concern with the Blades is 2 things, 1.orderign the Dragonborn around? what part of serve and protect does that mean that u have the right to tell the dragonborn who ur sworn to obey and protect? 2. the fact they will NOT serve or protect yaif u do not kill Paarthurnax, which it clearly states that MANY if not Tiber setim himself forbade going after Paarthurnax and they served them well until the oblivion crisis, but now that they found their true prupose and the dragonborn walks again and they have purpose in their duties now....they wont do it because i disagree like allll the emporers before me with them on it that they wont serve me......

The GreyBeards---is a party that does 2 things, 1. the thing they rarely do but are most reconized by it is to teach the thuum and the "way of the thuum". 2. the thing they do thats most important but is over shadowed by the thuum teaching is giving wisdom and advice. Because they are totally nuetral on the stances of the world they can look at each situation and not be persuaded or blinded by personal preferences etc etc. They can look at all angles and know which is the best route or advice even if its goes against ones moral or area's values.

as far as the GreyBeards saying the world should go ahead and end.....Id problemly say that to if all i saw grand war and civil war, brother against brother, fathers against fathers, the Thalmor in control and allience with the Empire, wild dragos coming back to life, and the one person who can save them all or fix the situation wants to kill the dragon whos protecting the tower that the thalmor want to destroy so they can get rid of humanity.......if i saw all this turmoil and strife and the person who comes to save them all is an idiot who because hes following an order who dont even know thier own identienty.........ya id problemly say it be better off watching this world burn than to let the slow death of idiots destroy it over a swift death from dragons.

I refused to kill Paarthurnax. Why? Because the Dark Brotherhood gets paid for murder. As I'm their leader, I need to set an example. No freebies.

If the Blades really want him dead, they can do the Black Sacrament like everyone else.

At the time they say that, you weren't asked to kill Paarthurnax and had no knowledge that he was a dragon. They had no reason to get that angsty simply because you said that the Blades told you about Dragonrend.

The Greybeard were not please to hear that the one Hero that would save Mundus following orders from Delphine (ya know, striding the Dragonborn astray and going against the Blade main Objective and all), and immediately know that they are not the Blade they were once was.

I can bet that the Greybeard would end up showing the Hero the way to beat the world eater anyways without Delphine and Esbern subplot quest that lead to the Temple they claim its theirs.

What I see as the problem is that both the Greybeards AND the Blades seem to have forgotten their place. The PC is the Dragonborn, and while they can and should advise, counsel, and even cajole, once Dovakiin makes a decision, it is time to stop whining, and get behind that decision.

While the Blades could ask and even plead with the PC to kill Parthurnaax, they most definitely should not turn their backs on me if I refuse. I AM still the Dragonborn, after all.
