Just found out Thrall only works on humanoids

Easily the most disappointing thing I have run across in this game.

So [censored] disappointed to learn that I would not be able to keep a giant frost spider with my Dunmer Necromancer.

The spell can be delimited in an editor, however, some creatures will stand around like dummies when thralled, like the trolls, and not follow.

I am pretty sure it was only intended to work with beings that have black souls.

I too was disappointed in this. I wanted to march into battle with a thralled rabbit and chicken at my side, but Bethesda spurned my wishes. I also wanted to thrall decapitated people but that too was shot out of the sky.

it's even more dissapointing when you find there is a level cap on thralls and most potential candidates for thralls "are too powerful for this spell" a master spell with a level cap seriously

I hate how the random dip[censored]s on the road who call me a milk drinker are "Too Powerful."

I've thralled Ancient Vampires, but not Masters, so that's not too bad.

it's still stupid that there is a level cap for the best conjuration spell in the game

The level cap isn't SUCH a handicap. Forsworn Ravagers are only level 34 and they'll still tear your heart out at any level. The Thalmor are Northwatch Keep tend to be in glass armor, so they're another good choice.

I've heard Ancano makes a good thrall, but he was "too powerful" when I tried to Thrall him, so there went that plan. I used Rulindil for awhile but it wasn't the same, we didn't have the history together. :(

dead thrall is arguably the most powerful spell in the game because you can outfit your thrall equips with smithed and enchanted gear.

Yeah, I was terribly disappointed with dead thrall too. I'm disappointed with conjuration in general, it used to be my favorite school of magic in Oblivion and Morrowind. Not even being able to summon a damned skeleton in Skyrim is pathetic, you only get atronachs and groaning blue people...

Even at that dead thrall svcks because you often loose your thralls or they just glitch out and don't work and everyone claims your spell is dangerous when you have no thrall.

Casting a Cloak Spell (Lightning, Fire, or Frost) kills whatever thralls you have (even if you don't really have one) and removes that effect if people are whigging out about it.

Yeah, if we're leveled past the target by 5 levels that should be good enough. I understand y'all's frustration though; I'm not a conjurer - I just got Dead Thrall to cause trouble.

Forsworn Ravagers are only level 34 and they'll still tear your heart out at any level.
Can you Dead Thrall Briarhearts or are they too undead-ish? :P

I've decent success at keeping them by waiting for a few seconds every time I zone and then if they don't appear I "wait" an hour and the Thrall usually appears...usually.

Briarhearts are always going to be the highest possible level depending on your level, so you might be able to Thrall one before level 40 (50 if you're a vampire with the Necromage perk.) Ravagers max out at 34 though so they're a sure thing.

Are you saying that at 40 you might be able to (provided their undead status doesn't take them out of the 'human' category), but at 50+ you can't? :o

after practicing necromancy on two characters, i've concluded that i prefer atronarcy so i do not worry about losing my thralls, because instead of searching for the corpse of the thrall (cicero got to an unreachable place in a lighthouse) i could just recreate the atronarch

I hear ya. I did frenzy a rabbit which then attacked a Vigilant of Stendarr. Plucky little guy!

I thralled a Master Necromancer from Hob's Fall cave. He was pretty good until a mudcrab whittled him down to size. I also had a Forsworn something (not briarheart) who was decent until he ran into some of his comrades. Apparently they knew all his tricks.

Well Briarhearts level according to your character, unlike every other Forsworn that has a set-in-stone level that never fluctuates. As for the Necromage thing, it does increase the tolerance for Dead Thrall in terms of level. So your the max level of your thrall is 50 rather than 40.
