Well, I am a big supporter of Beth's games and promote their use as pedagogical tools for various fields.

I also think it's great that one of the developers, on the team, a character artist no less, publically acknowledges the customers, and that Beth has established a very strong feedback loop with their modding community.

That feedback also raises the issue of character aesthetics that do not allow player choice, though, and the fact that this means that many people cannot play the game without relying on the modding community to offer said choice. This has been the case at least since Morrowind, so it really should be addressed.

Even if I skip my need to have East Asian artist character aesthetics for hair, face, and body visuals (something I have had to rely on the modding community for since Morrowind, again), it seems rather odd for the development team to violate lore such as having Bretons be very "ashen" when they are clearly stated to be "pale" even "pasty" in lore.

If Beth wants to make more money, they need to offer player choice via in game aesthetic selections, including those that adhere to lore, as well as other selections that are simply preferred by many of their global customers (as can be seen by the modding community, again). In short, they need to support diversity in their community and discourage the typical "hate" comments towards people who happen to prefer certain aesthetics versus others.

Or... they can simply lose customers, of course, by not allowing players to choose. This is what would happen without specific modding support, but I doubt that a company wishes to rely on uncertain and unpredictable support.

As an example, when the Hatsune Miku mod was discovered, I had a reason to return to Skyrim. Otherwise, I just could not play it because I could not identity with my character at all. Other people made the same comment when the mod was discovered. Any company would be happy to have the type of global appeal of such a character. It's not like people are following Oblivion or Morrowind characters years after the release of those games.

Beth says they want to improve the game and make it even better. Well, there's a very simple answer on how to do it.

Yeah it's a great game but we don't have to thank them to much they are getting filthy rich off of this.

Seriously what is with this mentality? Because Bethesda made money off of a product doesn't mean we should not thank them for putting the time into making the game in the first place. Besides if they weren't making money off their games we wouldn't be seeing any more Elder Scrolls games, and the more money they make the more money they can put into the next game. Because I doubt anyone around here has the millions to donate, that it takes to make games these days.

Agreed! It's so hard to stop playing, and when I can't, I'm so anxious to get back to it. I listen to the soundtrack all the time, and I get VERY crabby (withdrawls) when I haven't been able to play for awhile! My husband is the same! :thanks:
