Just wondering if I'm the only one

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 8:07 pm

I feel like i cant play Skyrim for longer than an hour or two anymore. Sometimes it will go untouched for days. The game and everything it has to offer is amazing, and there is a lot of content, but i've put in about 150+ hours on my first character and it svcks because this was my first RPG and i fast traveled (sadly) everywhere. I feel like there is nothing left to discover, and when i try to make a new character everything feels so repetitive because i know i've done that quest before. I know some people will say to roleplay, but i honestly svck at it and can't bring myself to do it.

Is there something i can do to bring back that spark again, to make it feel fresh? When i first bought the game i wouldn't put it down for hours.

I would say raise the difficulty, i tryed making a new character but it just doesn't work for me, i don't have the patience to re-do quests...so im only playing with my first character theres just something special about your original character anyway.

Yeah i know what you mean. But i did raise the difficulty to master and although my character is a battlemage, i started delving into pure warrior skills to try something new. I wont say all, but most enemies are pretty easy to slay except for the few mages who chain lightning or ice spike the hell out of me. I just feel like i overplayed the game or something, which is fine i guess. I have never played a game that didn't have an online multiplayer that gave me as many hours as Skyrim did. The only games that give me more hours than this game are online shooters like Halo and Gears of War, so i guess i got what i payed for an i enjoyed it for the most part.

Haha i havn't even played it but from judging all the posts about it in the forums, I'm sure its the best in the series. That's why i don't really give my opinion on what developers should do with their games and how to make Skyrim "better" and all that because i don't want to be a part of the group of people who are ruining the series for the veterans and old timers haha.

There are more than five million Skyrim players. No, you are not the only one.

Give the game a rest for awhile, if you can get anymore enjoyment out of the game, you'll start to get the urge to play.

I've been playing Morrowind and that for me is a game I can only play in chunks. The same goes for BF3 vs MW3. As for making it feel more fresh I'd advise taking a break. Early December I didn't touch Skyrim for a week or two, I filled my time with BF3, MW3, and other games I have on backlog (thanks to Steam I have a ton) since then I've purchased Morrowind and invest 70 hours into Skyrim (At the time I was sitting at around 40 hours).

For me the max I can play a game is around 100 hours, after that I become bored and move on. The only exception to this rule was Minecraft but that was so mindless.

I would say the best thing to do would be to make new character and focus on completely different skills with this one. I bet even though you fast traveled everywhere at 150 hours there are quests that you did not do, there are alot of quests that you don't get until you reach a certain level, and other quests that will only initiate if a certain skill is at a specfic level. I have played TES games before, and I usually avoid certain guilds that would apply to skills my current character is not using, this way I have a reason to make additonal characters, and have new quests and story lines to run through with that character.

Like others have suggested, I would try giving Morrowind a go. Also, if you haven't played them already, try Oblivion, Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas, and Daggerfall (its free to download Daggerfall). Just a word of caution: Daggerfall and Morrowind have very dated graphics, and they can be fairly unforgiving in terms of gameplay (particularly Daggerfall), so it will take time to get into them (if you can manage to get past the 'dice-roll' mechanics and the graphics). Better yet, if you have a PC capable of gaming, install mods -- they can add a whole new life to any of those games (with the exception of Daggerfall -- you can't use mods on that game).

Here are a couple of links to give you a feel for what Morrowind and Oblivion will be like:

over 350 hours and i didn't complete the main quest yet .
there's a lot of side quests , thieves guild quests , DB quests , level up Alchemy , blacksmithing , enchanting .
and if im bored of that decorating my house , exploring , reading lore books , try new companion .
backup your save files and try new mods .
and don't play daily

I'm on 490 hours or thereabouts, only just finished the main quest, only just maxed a few skills, and am still discovering new locations, and have quite a few known locations yet to explore. I also have about 40 quests active, some I won't do, some are Radiants, many are actual story quests.

I've only now put the game down for a short break.

Rule 1: Run places, don't fast travel if you want to find things.

Rule 2: Talk to people or eavesdrop.

Theres quests you come across at the farms, mines etc and on the roads that you'll just miss if you fast travel everywhere.
I'm lazy, I fast travel from time to time, but its worth just wandering and seeing what you come across.

I second that ... don't fast travel. Pick a place to go and walk/run there in a straight line or as close to one as you can get. I've spent hours aiming to do a quest and then being side tracked by the beautfil surroundings, finding new locations, ways to get from A to B etc. If you play it like a checklist then it becomes a job, not a joy. (Although a job can be a joy too!)
