Karma and quest options

Post » Wed May 11, 2011 2:35 am

Had some questions regarding karma and certain quest options.

For Example:

I was doing Cass’ quest. I believe my karma was evil at the time. When receiving the quest from Cass, it gave me the option of helping Ranger Jackson OR the option of stealth killing him.

I’ve done this quest a few times, and I have never again got the option of killing Ranger Jackson. I’m assuming this option was related to my bad karma, but am unsure. I am unsure what my faction reputation was w/ the NCR at the time.

I haven’t seen any other quests that gave me a new options based on karma.

Has anyone noticed other quests whose options can be altered due to your karma alignment?

Also are quest options altered by your factional alignment as well? Edit: I mean methods in which you can complete the quest.

Well technically some are affected by your factional reputation levels at least if your rep with a given group is too low, you can't take their quests but if I'm right about what you are actually asking I'm not too sure.

On a side note, I noticed on my latest playthrough you can get at least one factional rep based speech option when talking to I think it was Cass. There may be others I've not found yet or don't have the appropiate factional rep high enough.

You need NCR rep to get into Helios One via a speech check with the soldier outside the front door.

As far as I know, Karma doesn't affect quests, only the stuff in the endings.

However, faction reputation does affect quests, although most, if not all of the time it affects how it begins, not how it ends. For example, I couldn't interrogate the Legion prisoner when I was Vilified by the NCR. Also, when I had good reputation with the NCR, I think I was able to take the NCR Monorail at The Strip to Camp McCarran without being attacked by the NCR even when I was not wearing any NCR Uniforms.

Interesting. I have never seen an option to kill Ranger Jackson. But then again, I have done little as far as Stealth or gone truly evil yet, either.

There's one quest at the Ultra-Luxe which has a bad karma speech option, though I think you can bluff it via a speech check even without bad karma. I'm not aware of any other instances of karma affecting anything other than the ending slides though.

I'm starting to think that my rep effected the quest, not karma.

It is still strange cause I think it is the first time the my factional rep influenced how I was able to complete the quest, not just being able to start a quest.

I wonder what other quests can be modified in the same manner.
