The one to find without doing any quest is in Bloated Man's grotto.

Other will come by if you keep doing the main quest line.

Also there is something called the Ebony Blade which is a two handed sword that you need to talk to the maid at Bannered Mane once your level 20 to iniate the quest to recieve from a Daedra.

You can get a 1h katana at the Riverwood Inn basemant after you get the horn for the Greybeards. There is a quest for a 2h katana in Whiterun "Whispering Door".

Come to think of it, is there any way to obtain "clean" Akaviri katana? Ones without enchantments? I know that you can get some from Sky Haven Temple, but it requires you to have Delphine on your sight. I don't want that

I just want some cool katanas for my no-MQ char

Also fairly early one in the mainquest there open up a branch of quests that enable you to get one as well. It's steel quality I believe so unless you have smithing farily useless.

There is a Blades Sword in the cellar of the Riverwood Inn, and a katana that you can optain somewhere in the main quest.

Dragonbane is also a Katana as far as I know.

I have it on a weaponstand hanging on the wall behind my bed in Riften. Thought it was appropriate. It looks nice but it's not that good.

Dragonbane is the best of the steel swords.

Really? It does more damage than the one handed daedra sword. It's the best one handed sword in game.

Dragonbane is a leveled weapon. Meaning that if you get it at a low level, it's gonna be crap later on, but if you get it late in the game, it's gonna be pretty good. The final version of Dragonbane is Lvl 46+.

The leveling only effects the enchanted effect. Enhantment aside it still does 2+ base damege than the daedra sword. So it still wins hands down at the lowest level.

Dragonbane, Ebony Blade, and The Blades all are katana types as mentioned above. Also, I understand there is a mod that allows you to craft them. I don't know the name but I have a friend who likes em too and he did the mod and says they are basically like ebony or daedra weps damage level-wise.

According to this there are 8 in total. All in different places it seems.

Edit: I think the only one that can be obtained without the main quest is in Nightingate (sp?) Inn.
