keep crashing after 15minutes to 1 hour

It worked like wonder after install but the more i explore and fill out the more offten crashes occour for me now im lvl 30 and have explored moust of the world just a few unexplored places left .... i usualy crashes directly after an conversation with an NPC or when i am about to encounter some enemies i doesnt get any error codes or such just CTD and windows try to identify the problem but withou any ressult

wellit seems i solwed my problem by turning off AA and lowering some settings like shadows and such but now game looks crappyer but playable atleast

I got the same problem but I can run the game on Ultra without any FPS changes but it can take five minutes, ten minutes and even three hours before it crashes. And I don't notice anything special I'm doing at the moment it crashes, last time I was just walking through Goodsprings and when I found this problem I was in the middle of Nellis Air Force Base. When it crashes the music and ambientsounds are still in the background but the graphics freezes. When this issue appears I have to re-boot my PC manually and it's starting to get annoying.

Today I've been sitting and watching the FalloutNV icon on my desktop afraid of launching the game because it can cause this damn crashes.

NOTE: I got Fallout 3 and I got no issues with it.

I can confirm turning down AA has helped me. I played the game for about 30 hours no problem and then all of a sudden it would freeze just like this. I could still hear the sounds and music, but it was frozen. I lowered the AA from 8 to 4 and also turned off AF in the game settings. (I enabled 16 AF in the nVidia control panel). So far things have been fine. There have been maybe 1 or 2 crashes since. Def not as many as before.

I will try to turn off AA ingame and AF while turning up AF to 4 or 16 in NVIDIA Control Panel, let's see what happens.

same thing is happening to me. This happens on FO3 and New Vegas for me. I have AA set to 2x currently and I did notice it happening more frequently when I switched to ingame AA instead of control panel AA. Anyway the crash occurs randomly and I get a black screen with looping sound. For instance if an explosion goes off at that moment the explosion sound loops. Or if nothing is happening then the ambient sounds or radio will continue to play. And I am forced to manually reboot my PC. I know it's not an overheating problem because I have been monitoring it and it never gets above 77 degrees C. And sometimes it happens so fast my card never gets above 45 degrees. :(

my crashes is back so turning AA off just fixedit for the momment...i have an ATI Radeon 4870 could it be that the game runs better on Nvidia cartds? or am i all wrong? anyway i dont know what to do anymore crashes appears all from 3 hours to 6 hours now....and at some points i crash when i stem on some point in the world one point was somewhere to the east of hidden valley other was inthe forest near georgtown (or what it now was the one filled with mutants to the west in the montains)

Freezes & CTDs happen to me ever since I've encountered the savegame corruption bug triggered by Vault 3 (however, latter has been fixed with the patch). Even if I exit the game after, say 30 min., and then restart, I got about 10 min left until the next freeze or CTD. Only way to "buy" another full period of 30/40 min is to restart the PC.

Often the freeze/CTD is accompanied by an error window (exception error) referring to different programs each time. Can be Avira, Tea Timer, WinPatrol or some other program that "failed to install" or is diagnosed as being "corrupt" or "destroyed". Of course these are all false positives.

All that points to a memory leak. I do hope the developers look into that and sort it out asap because it is a quite annoying immersion killer.

Sounds a lot like what I'm seeing... was able to play OK before the patch, but now after maybe 15 minutes or so, the game will just freeze on me whenever a new enemy spots me, or I enter a new area, or sometimes if I try to open my Pip-Boy, or various other random things. At first it'll freeze for maybe 10-15 seconds, and my hardware monitors (I have a G15 keyboard w LCD that shows me this stuff) shows the CPU usage dropping to zero, while my HDD activity indicator stays on, like it's trying to read from the drive. Eventually it will recover and I can play fine for a few seconds to a few minutes, but it will get progressively worse, with each freeze lasting longer, and then eventually the sound will start to loop and I know it's gone, and I have to Ctrl-Alt-Delete out to the Task Manager to kill it. Basically, it's unplayable at this point.

After hours of experimentation I found I was getting crashes consistently when large areas of Sky and landscapes were on screen. All it took was a sudden movement or change in perspective to CTD. (I never got a crash in an interior)

There were just too many variables to adjust. I finally narrowed it down to three:

1. AA
2: Light Fade
3. Specular Fade

All, I suspect, are hardware conflicts with my NVidia GTX+ card After turning these off I can play on Ultra for extended periods and the appearance hit is minimal.

Like others I seem to still have AI scripting crashes and random crashes after exiting an interior into the Wasteland..
