Khajiiti Mage?

Post » Sat Jun 09, 2012 4:25 pm

Let me first start off by saying that the Dunmer and the Khajiit are my favorite character races to play.

My Dunmer Assassin is the most lethal person Skyrim has ever seen (or not seen as he is a very good assassin.

I've done the same thing with many Khajiit in the past, and I've even had very good success with my Dunmer Mages.

Now I'm wanting to play as a Khajiit Mage, and I was looking to you guys for both your opinions on the matter as well as your tips on doing it correctly. What success/failures have you guys had with your times as a Khajiiti Mage? Since by nature they are not a very magic-centric race, would I work them similar to my Dunmer characters (even though the Dunmer are good with magic)? Or are there special areas of work that will help me to succeed?

Just wondering what the community's thoughts were on the subject.

Well, since Dunmer Mage and Khajiit Assassin would be the easy, logical choices.... I applaud your violation of the status quo.

There are Khajiit mages (J'zargo) so being a Khajiit mage is nothing lore breaking. I tried being one, but I found the Altmer's +50 magika and highborn too good to go without as a mage.

The Khajiit would actually be very good mages, as evidenced by J'zargo. Run out of magicka or get too close, and you still have two 22-damage fists that weigh nothing. As for conventional combat, you'd be as good as any non-Breton human race if you level properly. Hell, my Nord assassin makes a damn fine mage when he needs to be.

I thought about being an Altmer (or trying one at least...), but in every Elder Scrolls that I play, they are always so haughty and arrogant. They think that they are so much better than all other races and place themselves as the finest of the Mer, but my assassins seem to kill them so easily... I just can't bring myself to play one, so I think I'll just stick with my current options of Dunmer and Khajiit characters. I just can never get tired of them.

Illusion magic would suit you fine. I play a khajiit mage as well and find ways of fighting indirectly :). Khajiit's can naturally be mages like anyone who uses the power of the sun to do so. But there are specific khajiit breeds that are better mages ;)

I don't mean to sound like your high school counselor, but "you can do anything you want", I have played a khajiit Mage which in OB was ok, but in skyrim it seems to be very uniform, the only major difference is powers and abilities. Night eye negates alterations light magic... That's about it. Good luck

I would love to play as the different breeds of Khajiit... maybe we'll get to in The Elder Scrolls XIV??? lmao

Race has no bearing on being a mage. The only difference between the races are their racial powers, I believe you know this however. This game isn't deep enough for race to matter in regards to anything.

Well. actually some characters are better at being Mages just by their racial abilities. Altmer and Bretons excel at being Mages, while everyone else seems to have to work a little harder. I'm not trying to start a bitter Race argument, but some just are better at magic than others.

I was more or less looking for any pitfalls to avoid in playing as a Khajiit mage versus the normal Warrior or Assassin. No harm, no foul though. I appreciate the opinion.
