kill paarthurnax.. and the blades after it all

Post » Mon May 28, 2012 9:30 pm

okay so ive got to the part of the game where i have the option to kill paarth and the blades wont talk to me unless i do i dont really plan on killing paarth anytime soon, and from what ive read online on some websites that after you kill paarth you can recruit people into the blades... my question is is that all you can do? or is there more to it like if u get 5 blades does it unlock more quests or something? and if i dont kill paarth what do i gain from the greybeards?.. if anyone can tell me that would be great ^^.... thank you for all your replys

If all you need are good followers, I'm pretty sure the Companions are the best for that. I don't know about any bonus quests.

I chose to let the Dragon live, it's a friendly Dragon, I couldn't bring myself to kill him.

It's basically a lose lose situation. I've told the greybeards that I will not kill Paarthurnax, and I've gained nothing. But on a previous charcter, I killed him, and got to recruit members for the blades, and nothing else(after recruiting seven people). Either way, you're pitted as the bad guy in this situation.

Well, many many years ago he and Alduin were best buds, he killed millions of people during the dragon war.
The only way for him to stop his urge(which he has everyday) is by meditating.

He even admits he doesn't blame the Blades for mistrusting him.

Ummm. No you're not. Becoming one of the blades is a lose lose situation? Yeah ok. The Blades certainly don't "pit" you as the bad guy and they CERTAINLY aren't the bad guys. So yeah, there is a WIN to it.

The Blades want you to kill the only being that was able to help you, seems pretty bad to me, and if you don't kill him, they see you as a traitor. If you tell the Greaybeards you're going to kill him, then you're bad. And you gain nothing from any of the options, therefore, it's a loss.

It doesn't impede on the main quest though. You are still able to complete it as normal without the help of the dragon. Even if the dragon did help you you can certainly go on and finish the main quest successfully. He isn't the end all be all of the main quest.

Of course it doesn't, I was stating this from a role-playing perspective.

Let's just say that the game doesn't show you the whole story about Paarthurnax. He probably killed thousands of families, mothers and babies and all.

Yeah, I know, but it's the idea of redemption, and the fact that Dragons are cool regardless of whether they're bad or not

But he eventually helped the humans by teaching them the voice, which in turn probably saved hundreds of thousands of people, if not millions. I'm sure he's done enough to right his wrongs.

About the initial question ... I think the Blades will tell you locations of dragons you haven't found before to hunt them down. The Greybeards on the other hand tell you about word walls you haven't found yet. So both sides can give you hints on either where to find more dragons to kill or the locations of word walls you haven't found yet.

As far as I know this is about the only "reward" that comes from the decision. Might be wrong cause I have not killed Paarthrunax and I have also not joined the Blades.

I personally have decided to kill Paarthanax on this playthrough just because I want to hook up with the Blades. Even with that being said, I still consider my character non-evil, even if I am robbing Paarthanax of his chance at redemption.

Excuse my language but F*** the Blades. How do you kill an ally that was instrumental in overcoming Alduin? The enemy of my enemy is my friend? I don't know... I actually felt bad and could not kill the scaly little guy. Well, maybe not so little but you get the idea.

Well let's just let people play the want to play ok? ;) I like to try out everything. Since it's a game where everyone should play the way they want there is nothing wrong with killing Paarthurnax on one play through and siding with him on another. I don't think I'm making a bad decision joining the blades since it's MY game and how I want to PLAY.

There is a path that you can take were you finish the Blades non-repetitive quests before they ask you to kill Paarthurnax that way you can get all the static content done and get to choose on the optional quest. So there is a third option of ignoring them after your done with the Blades.

Some people like making choices for a reason others like making all choices, it's your choice how you wish to play. (Bad decision has more to do with role playing elements over completing all possible combinations)

The quest won't appear until after you are given the means to kill Alduin. Typical huh?

But then how will you stop Alduin?

Would you let a serial killer who murdered hundreds of innocent people live if he helped the army assassinate an evil dictator?
