Killed Alduin, now what?

Post » Thu Jun 07, 2012 9:22 am

I bought the game like a week ago, and got so into it that I rushed thru the main-quest chain and finally killed Alduin (left my bud Paarthurnax alive ). Now it feels like I'm done with the game :( I honestly expected more into the whole story-line, and the end was quite disappointing. What do you guys do for fun after finishing the main quests? My main character build is a sneaky assassin, archer/1h swords. Now I made a Mage to see if I can beat the game again on a harder difficult level. I also been playing around with certain mods, but I really don't want to get bored of this game yet :(

If you've only done the Main Quest, there are other questlines.

I usually never need anything else to do besides being pointed to a dungeon to kill or fetch something. Either way I usually get engrossed in killing everything. I like to kill stuff, what can I say?

There is so much more that you can do in Skyrim... but I do sort of feel your pain. I've finished the MQ twice and afterwards always felt just a little lost, like I'd "beat" the game and now had nothing left to do. But really there's no way to beat this game, there are numerous factions you can join (a couple of which are mutually exclusive, so you can't do them all with one character) and SO many places to explore. If you need a storyline that funnels you into a particular direction in order to complete it, then yes eventually you'll run out of stories to play out... unless you can role play a different perspective on them.

But if you just go out and walk around and explore whatever locations you discover, you'll find plenty to do. Skyrim isn't the kind of game you "beat" as finishing one questline doesn't mean it ends. It goes on until you run out of things to do and see and after nearly six months and four characters I'm *still* finding people and places I never encountered before.

you should tackle the other story lines. Companions, Thieve's Guild, The Dark Brotherhood, Civil War just to name a few. I actually find those more enjoyable then the main quest line. Would also suggest talking a lot to the greybeards and learn locations of power.

Explore! there is so much out there to be seen and to experience.

Roam thw wilderness, find caves, follow winding mountain paths to unknown destinations, join the guilds, play with another character(s).

The strategy guide is about 650 page long. Seriously, how many games have a strategy guide that big? Sure, Skyrim is a sandbox type of game and the Elderscrolls have always been about exploring and building your own adventure. If you come from story driven game, you might feel a bit lost, I can understand that, but believe me when I saying that, by playing the main quest, you've only seen but a glimpse of the content in Skyrim

Just wander. Wander and kill new and interesting things.

Trust me, the places you'll discover and the obscure side-quests you'll undertake will keep you busy for years of real time.

I've been playing The Elder Scrolls since Daggerfall, and this is a constant theme and requirement in the series.

Just explore, OP. You'll find enough content that you'll start to wonder if you have enough time to finish it all. It was five years or so in between Oblivion and Skyrim, and on Skyrim's release day I was playing Oblivion still, and I still hadn't found everything or done everything. Just keep your eyes open and explore anything that interests you.

Play the game. There's better things to do than the MQ. I ignore it most of the time.
The worlds in no danger. The Eye Of Magnus is more dangerous and important.
Just play the faction, minor and mischellanious quests, theres more story to them.

The MQ leaves a bitter aftertaste, does'nt it.
The MQ is lame. When I did it the first time I was like 'What! Thats it! No reward, no item, no title, nothing!' I ended the game after it.
I nearly rage quit.
Come one, not even a cutscene to show you did it? No one notices you saved the world. It's pathetic.

Being able to summon a dragon into battle isn't a reward? I'd say the ending dialog with Paarthurnax and all the dragons swarming around counts as a cut scene.
and the guards make mention of you slaying Alduin all the time.

So you just rushed through the main quest.
How long did you do it? Three hours?
Don't you smell the roses?
I gather this is your first The Elder Scroll game you played.
Mate there lots other thing to do in Skyrim then the main quest. Like smelling roses.
So you did not see a ghost in a certain inn after you slept.
You did not help in the civil war?
So you did not gate crash a wedding, kill a bride and start a riot.
You did not become a werewolf.
You did not have a drinking contest.
So you did not go through a Oblivion gate. Sorry wrong game.
You did not go toe to toe with a giant.

Take your time with your new character. Ignore the main quest altogether.

Correct. I haven't play other TES games before, that's why I decided to post here and ask for tips. I became a vampire tho, and basically hunt giants for fun lol.

Thanks everyone for the help  now I see there's a ton of stuffs to do in Skyrim

Like you said yourself make a new character a complete different build
do the MQ till the 'blades in the dark' mission and forget about the MQ after that
indeed mods give you a larger choice of different builds
disable your HUD and go explore you will be suprised what you find
Never fast travel

If you really like this game you will still be playing skyrim in 6 months time , i promise
