Killing people

Post » Tue May 10, 2011 3:38 pm

Maybe I really am just a "vindicitve [censored]" as Benny put it when I had him put on a cross, but they really need to change up the killing in this game a little bit. My character is a sniper, and seriously all I wanna do is blow off an enemy's leg or arm, but not kill them when I do this. Now I realize once they loose a leg they are pretty worthless, but it would just be sweet to blow off their leg or arm and have them try to still come after me. Does anyone else feel this way, or did I melt to many army soliders with a magnifine glass when I was a kid? haha

No. Of all the realistic things I would want, which isn't much, that is not one of them. :o

First time I used my sniper and blew a dudes head off made me think of Solider of Fortune! I do miss the realistic violence of that game haha

I think the gore of the death animations is probably already about at the limit for many mainstream gamers, so this seems like a potentially tall order.

Consider taking a break by playing Dark Sector, where people scream and flail more after being dismembered.

Blowing off someone's arm and them not dying does not strike me as remotely "more realistic" unless it's by comparison to something where I can blow off their head and they live.

As a sniper it's always funny to see someone decapitated by a head shot, totally unrealistic. But so were the original Fallout combat graphics. Oh well...

A new engine? All I was trying to say is when I blow a dudes leg off or their arm off they shouldnt die from this. They should still try and kill you that's all. So when I snipe a dude from a mile away I can blow off both of their arms then run up to him and melee him to death or something. I just think it'd be funny.

in real life, you couldn't cause a person to lose a limb with a sniper rifle. you would need something stronger like a missile. but sometimes i hit an arm and they drop their weapons. then they go and try to pick up it up.

i expect some of they nasties would retreat after losing a limb and others would continue to attack until they are dead.

Judging from my experience, the sort of thing we see in Fallout isn't realistic. It takes a great deal of force to decapitate something and limbs aren't much different. Soldier of Fortune did come close to what it would look like to get shot, but the decapitation and limb loss parts were greatly exaggerated.

Not the case with explosives and the Anti-Materiel Rifle though. Both of those would do massive damage to limbs.

A 50. Caliber Sniper shot a Taliban planting a EOD from a mile away and blew a hole in his chest and the arm was torn off from the force.
This is a real story.

Unrealistic? Certainly. But the way enemies lose limbs in this game - a shot off limb flying over their heads for example (“wait, was that my leg? ")– would take the fight out of even the most unreasonable, drugged up, combatant.

Nah, not for me. I don't think people who get their legs shot off are going to still be hopping towards you. Maybe if just their big toe. ;)
I don't even take the perk that makes things more gory. I do find the head shot animations funny (I did in one of the Quakes, too) but if there was none of that I wouldn't miss it, either.

There was a mod in FO3 where feral ghouls if not beheaded properly would have a 25% chance of resurrection, even with limbs shot off there was a chance they crawled or limped toward you and attacked, a bit like resident evil's zombies. Was it MMM mod? I don't remember. Cool mod anyway...

You could easily loose a limb to a bullet but I think the confusion is with the clean-break, which is unrealistic. There'd be heavy gibbing, so the area around the impact would be destroyed and seem missing, as opposed to the surgical precision that appears on severed limbs on this game.

Also, if you lost your leg at the knee, for instance, without a tourniquet, which you would only apply if you're willing to accept that the leg will never be reattached (due to necrosis), you've got about 1 minute before you pass out from blood loss.

In closing, I'd like to see the near-dead writhing in pain for a few seconds, instead of going immediately into ragdoll, but even more important is -

FORUM has stopped working. Windows is checking for a solution to the problem.

The idea that they will stop attacking if their arm gets blown off doesn't make much sense in the context of a game where you can shoot someone in the face and they will keep attacking you.

Exactly! This is why I didn't think it was that crazy of an idea seeing as how it already is retardely unrealistic.

I dunno, if I blew off someone's leg or arm and they kept coming at me in the game, I would wonder what the devs were smoking when they came up with that one.

Yes a MMM plugin "zombie horde/apocolypse" or something like that. it doubled what ever spawn rate you had active (so you'd have like 40-80 Ferals in some locations underground if you used Increased increased spawns.)

Feral Ghouls aren't zombies, so while that mod seems fun, it's not accurate to those creatures.

Now, while injured enemies won't bleed out and die over time, I think there are a few reasonable adjustments that could be made to how inured enemies behave.

For example, if I cripple an enemy's arm, he/she/it should not be able to use that arm again. I don't want to see them picking up a rifle so that they could shoot at me again. They should switch to a single-handed weapon. An enemy with two crippled legs should not be able to walk. I'll allow for them to be able to stand, but they should not walk.

I beg to differ, I think that feral ghouls due to long time radiation exposure gained certain regenerating organs/limbs qualities or something like that.

And where is it confirmed that they can reproduce theirs organs and limbs?
They heal faster by radiation but that doesn't mean that they can grow new limbs.
