A lack of songs

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 10:40 am

First of all, Mr. New Vegas is great. I like the suave voice broadcasting over the post-apocalyptic airways of Nevada. The song choice isn't do good. Is it just me, or does it seem limited? I keep waiting for a quest where I find old records that can be played on the radio. Maybe I'm not quite there yet, or maybe its DLC (although that would be cheap). the songs don't really fir the mood of wandering the wastes as well as the songs of Fallout 3's GNR (with Threeee Dog!) did. The sponsorships with each song is a nice touch, but it doesn't quite cut the cheese. Anyone else agree or disagree?

There does seem to be a lot of repetition given how much time played... and I'm not enjoying it so much, I loathe country music.

In FO3 I usually played with Enclave radio or just the ambient tracks.

I do tend to agree. There seems to be about 8 songs on that radio station, most obnoxious of these is "Johnny Guitar"

Yeah, I've noticed this too. I mean, they could play that Jingle Jangle Jingle song all day long and I'd still love it, but they don't, so they may as well have more variety than they do. :P

Made a thread about this yesterday. I find Mr. New Vegas's (Wayne Newton I think) voice boring almost. 3dog got annoying, but I never felt like going to sleep just listening to him.

There are some decent songs on the soundtrack, but nowhere near as good a FO3. I miss Butcher Pete and Set the World on Fire.

I think there was a previous thread on this - but anyway - I love the tracks but agree that there are FAR too few. I don't know what a multi-million dollar production did think to invest in the rights to more than 8 tracks... And if you stick to one radio station, you're gonna be bombarded with THREE tracks over and over. The only thing I can think of is this is supposed to be 'immersive' as post-postapocolipticia DJ aren't supposed to have hundreds of tracks lying around their 'studio.'

Whatever.

Eh probably short on the list. I'd almost bet someone it working on a mod for it now. As it stands, there's no shortage of songs that are in the public domain that can be used.

There are actually 48 .mp3 music files in the radionv folder for the game. I suspect there's a technical problem with how the game chooses to randomise the tracks which only a patch will solve.

That's interesting, if true, and kind of makes sense. I remember reading something a while back where someone (possibly Josh Sawyer) talked about how many songs are in the game, and I remember being impressed because it was a pretty big number. Hearing the same songs over and over again on NVR, though, makes me think something's missing here.

Maybe he was counting the ambient music?

Maybe, but I'm pretty sure he mentioned licensed tracks (i.e. songs that they licensed from whatever the music distributor is).

I really like Mr. New Vegas as a DJ, but I'm hating how I hear the same 4 songs over and over and over and over.

I felt the same way after 20 hours of play time on FO3, but there was enough variety per station there that it was never worth complaining about.

I feel like it's ridiculous to only have 4 songs on one station. Especially one like Mr. New Vegas' which, I think, would be the most popular since that's the one where you hear about places and things to do in-game (and get to hear about yourself!).

I mean REALLY, that's my only complaint for this game so far, and I've put in a little over 10 hours.

Mohave Music seems to be doing the same.

Sounds like a bug!

Agreed... far too few. I'm certain indie artists would do it for free, assuming their stuff was decent and fit into the story, for the exposure.

Man, I would produce the entire game's worth of music in exchange for a few CE's (one for me and a couple for friends) and my name in the credits booklet.

Actually, come to think of it, I think there is a bug at work with the randomizer, because last night I heard Big Iron play twice in a row. There wasn't even any commentary in between; it just stopped playing, and then immediately repeated.

This Game is lacking everything that Fallout 3 had except on Bugs. While it is an amazing Game it just has so many Bugs that ruin the Game.

They need a quest where you install a high tech satalite radio on your pipboy so you can pick up GNR. It would also be a cool way to tell us the current events of D.C.

That idea is genius right there, I should so be workin for these people.

I already replaced about 90% of it with my own stuff. You can do so very easily, just browse to Steam\steamapps\common\fallout new vegas\Data\Sound\songs\radionv and insert your own MP3s. Rename them appropriately and the game has no idea.

Instead of replacing what's already there in the songs/radionv folder, is it possible to add to it? I'd love to drop in some apporpriate mp3 files from my collection. Does anyone know if the game will integrate them into what's already there?
