landscape painting black texture issue

Post » Sun Jun 17, 2012 6:21 pm

Anyone else run into the issue where when you try to paint a texture in the CK, the texture is black? I would think this is a missing normal map problem or soemthing like that except the same texture shows up fine elsewhere in teh world. It's only when I've tried to paint it myself. I've had the texture randomly appear before as well for seemingly no reason. Further painting however was just black again. Anyone else had this or know a solution?

Are you running a texture pack by chance? I haven't tried it without mine yet. it may be related to that.

I posted in the other thread also, But do you have the box at the bottom in the "Vertex Color" section ticked, for "Edit Colors" ?
You dont want that ticked if you do.

I believe this is related to the texture limit in each cell, which is 6.

I'm going to borrow Joel's explanation for this:
The black terrain sounds like you have too many textures in a quad. Try this.
  • Load the cell giving you difficulty
  • Toggle cell borders on
  • Get a nice, centered top-down view of the cell
  • Enter landscape editing mode (H)
  • Press "i". If you have > 6 textures in a quad, any added textures turn black.
Hopefully you can just economize what textures you're using and solve the issue.
