Last book you read?

Post » Wed Jul 27, 2011 5:59 pm

The book I have read most recently is "Survivor" by Chuck Palahnuck (I apoligize if I spelled his name wrong) it was excellent, I actually enjoyed it more than "Rant" which is also by Chuck.

If you have read his work before, then you know attempting to describe the book to you would be pointless, all I can tell you is that I highly reccomend it.

I'm currently reading Stephen King's The Stand, but the last book I finished was Cormac McCarthy's The Road.

EDIT: Or was it Steven Erikson's Gardens of the Moon? I really can't remember...

Mogworld. Great book, and very thought provoking and surprisingly raises philosophical questions about reality.

EDIT - Well, that's the last book I read for leisure. I've read other books since then for my classes, such as "All Quiet on the Western Front", "Under the Persimmon Tree", and "Romeo and Juliet".

I suppose a short description of the overall theme of the book is in order......

Its about one of the last surviving members of the infamous "Creedish Death Cult" and his path from a house keeping nobody to a steroid injected media messiah, and then his progressive decent.

Imo its a perfect comment on fame and faith in America at this point in time......even though it was published in 1999.

EDIT: I have to read Mole People or Call of the Wild for my Honors English summer reading....can anybody who has read them suggest one over the other?

The last book I actually completed was Eragon, which was good even though I know some people will disagree. The last book I was reading was a A Game of Thrones, although I got caught up in the HBO show, so I doubt I'll finish it. I just ordered The Lies of Locke Lamora as per suggestions in the "Recommend me some books" thread, so hopefully that one is good.

The last book I read was The Lords of Discipline, it was pretty great, especially having a whole bunch of mysteries, sort of, and then answered in the end.

I recently finished The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson. It's the first in a series of three, a crime thriller fiction. I'm reading the second book now, The Girl who Played With Fire, which has little to do with the first other than continuity of characters. Highly recommended (so far).

Considering the third isn't yet in pocket paperback, I won't be reading it right away, though I was gifted Dance with Dragons and plan on getting into that once "Fire" has finished.

Sadly I have so much stuff going on that when I have time I could spend concentrating on reading, I'm either writing, playing New Vegas, or...sleeping. :P

I just finished the third book in the Song of Ice and Fire series, A Storm of Swords and it was absolutely phenomenal. Waiting a bit before starting the fourth book, though.

Joe abercrombie's The First Law, last book of the six book in the First Law. Got to say, it makes be 100% sure there comes more books after it. It's an OK book with a lot of fighting and a bit more mature feel to it than other similar fantasy stories.

Now moved onto The night angel trilogy, the way of shadows, book 1. Still not sure what to think.

I recently finished Live and let Die by Ian Fleming. Makes the movie look like a steaming pile of manure.

It gets better and better. How far in are you?

Animal Farm, for school. It was definitely more enjoyable than I expected.

Before that, I tried to read Don Quixote. It was funny and interesting, but it has to be the longest book ever written short of encyclopedias.

I'm currently reading Revolution 1989: The Fall of the Soviet Empire, and I'm hoping to start reading Blindsight by Peter Watts after I finish it.

The last book I finished was "Flow My Tears, The Policeman Said" by P.K. dike. Was really good, but I didn't think it was as good as some of the others of his, but still a good read.

I'm currently reading:

"The Culture of Counter-Culture" by Alan Watts
"Oliver Twist" by Charles dikeens

I've got quite a number of other books I've been meaning to start, but I've not been reading much lately.

"Survivor" by Chuck Palahnuck (I apoligize if I spelled his name wrong)

Hey! That's the author of Fight Club right? (Yes, before it was a movie it was a book.)

I'm reading "Honor Harrington" series, sci-fi naval adventure. Really interesting, action, politics, warfare...! Now reading book 10. In the same vein, I'm waiting for Kris Longknife's next chapter... Also interesting, but a little more funny.

I would probably say the last book i've read is The Art Of War which contained works by Sun Tzu, The Prince, and a Gulf War General I believe *not sure about the last part*. However I might revise that to the last book i'm reading is about Nanoscale manipulation of matter talking about how to grow it, use it, and refine it's processes. Already this is giving me a headache and i'm just dealing with the history of it.

Last book I read was The Carhullan Army - an woman escapes an Orwellian society to find Carhulla: a small, completely self sufficient community cut off from the wider world, and "The Authority" in particular. Thumbs up from me!
