After downloading the texture pack did I run an integrity check on the game, using the Steam client.

At the next game start did the game run the auto-detect for the video card and overwrote the existing values in the .ini-files.

Could this auto-detect feature get an option like "CANCEL"??

I and others put a lot of effort in finding good settings for their graphics hardware and having them automatically overwritten is infuriating.

I'm rather curious about this as well. It happens every now and again, and requires quite a bit of work to correct.

Once you get the settings you like and want to keep set --- make a backup copy of the ini files and rename them -- then next time the game auto detect runs delete the new ini and replace it with a copy of the saved one !

I normally just set the 2 ini files to read only. Problem solved.

That seems to have fixed it. Made a backup as well, just in case....

Just a easy mode tip if you get a reverted ini etc. the quickest fix for a downslide is AA and shadows. I am sure this is common knowledge but w.e just in case it isn't for someone.

Yes, just to be clear, info for everyone:
Verifying game files is like re-installing the game!
Vidcard re-detected; default .ini; default settings (ie. level of difficulty etc.) within the game.
Everything like a new install, except the buttons you have mapped.
I learned this the hard way too, and I was most upset to discover that I was playing for days on Adept difficulty (when I had previously gone to Expert, and then Master).
Steam's title for this proceedure is somewhat misleading...

My other settings revert as well....Autosaves off (will be back on) etc. stuff like that as well so if you are like me and disable tons of default options and sound levels etc most all of that will revert. I think binds are saved to the cloud but I can't say because of the terrible mouse latency I opt to use my 360 controller.
