legate lanius killing this bastard : Fallout: New Vegas

ok so i have basicaly no guns a dodgy limb not a great deal of speech and not a great deal of anything....so am i [censored] or can anyone suggest anything???

Do you have any weapons skills at 100?
Do you have any explosives like mines in your bag? Use those and try to cripple him.
Make sure you use all of your chems seeing as though this is the last battle.

If you're out of ammo there should be a legionaire on those two towers on the far left and right sides. Just grab what they had.
Praetorians had ballistic fists which are solid if your unarmed is relatively high or if you really have nothing left.

My weapons skills are at around 60 i have 1x c4 and around 4 frags i have one or 2 chem boosts i have a flammer and a missile launcher my mellee skills are as low as they are at the start as i never bothered with them but i do have one of the mags to boost it a bit i have the balistic fist and the super sledge but im not sure how much damage i can do?? i think im stuck to be honest all those hours of play and im just going to have to quit i think

im around level 16 for some reason i think ive sorted spread them out between all skills like an idiot

yeah dude I think you went into the Main quest a little too early, maybe next time do more sidequests and stuff before to boost your level. And don't neglect speech, but I'm sure you get that now

Anyways if you keep trying and it doesn't work out, and you really wanna finish the quest, I suggest you use the console to kill him (you need to be playing on the PC too!).
If you want the achievements that go with it, bare in mind if you use a console command all steam achievements aren't logged for that session, so if you want them save and quit the whole game (FNV, not just your character game) right after you've used it to kill him.

If seeing the conclusion and getting the achievements don't matter much to you then maybe it's time to start over again :/

Do you have a detanator for the C4. Its quite effective, you might be able to cripple legate lanius, then you can finish him off with the flamer at a distance. If not i reccomend just throwing all the grenades and firing the missiles at him, and hope you get lucky

You could always get up onto a high spot, like on a ent or something, and then just shoot him until he dies :S

if you play on a pc would could activate the console in-game and alter stuff - basically cheating. if you're on the 360 you're out of luck dude.

If you can get your paws on a Ballistic fist and some Med-X and Psycho, you may have a chance. But admittedly, Level 16 is not a good time to be fighting Lanius. I had a similar disaster when (on my Legion playthrough) I got svcked into the morass of traps and rangers in Oliver's compound.

A bit of charisma can be so important in life.
(Apparently if your barter skill is very high, there's an interesting path for that as well.)
I can get my speech up to 70 with mentats/nightwear, then becomes 90 with magazine.

I was Level 30 before I ever got to Vegas!
How did you get to Lanius by Level 16?
You're missing all the good stuff.
Simply reload your save from before the big ending, and head back out into the wastes.
Go north and meet the Aliens.
Their gun comes in very handy - but don't roast your way through all the ammo too quickly...

The aliens only appear with the Wild Wasteland trait. The alien blaster isn't all that amazing anyways.

Well, maybe not to you and me.
But our friend rich1977 is in tough, he apparently doesn't have ~280 pounds of weapons including chainsaws, plasma casters etc. etc. like I do.
Plus, Lanius appears to be very susceptible to the alien blaster.
After running around one time for ~20 minutes trying to stay alive meleeing with him, I popped him once with the blaster and he goo-piled right away.

Thanks peeps i recon ive done it with a few well placed missiles takin out 4 or 5 men with one and then one or 2 to take out the big mans legs an one solid one to his chest then finaly the most satisfing head shot ever on the last geezer took his head clean off from distance with vats after id ramped up the phyco injections i then ran out of time (had to goto work) but i think ive turned over at least 10 men including the big man what hapens next ? the camp seems quiet

Well, the brush gun does the same damage as the AB and he can get that at level 16. Assuming he has a manual save before the point of no return, because he can't just walk away from the battle to look for one.

Don't forget you can shoot him from safe distance and thus ignore all the dialogue that puts you into melee distance from him.

* WARNING: GIGANTIC SPOILER ALERT *

level 16 means that http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Laniusis at level 16+30% or 19.
You are up for big challenge beating him with a flamer and 1 C4. He's as fast as a legendary deathclaw so you gotta be quick.

The easiest way to beat Lanius for me was to

get at least 2 http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Mini_nuke_(Fallout:_New_Vegas), a repaired Fat Man, Archimides gun (after you finish arming it first, of course)
Get unarmed skill to 100, power 9, endurance 7, and most importantly agility 10 with some extra perks like http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Action_Boy, http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Nerves_of_Steel before getting to Lanius and at least 1/2 of that when you get to Mr. House's basemant at the Fort.
explosives at least 30 for the Fat Man (last priority) and an explosives magazine to use before you fire that thing on Lanius
Get a power armor - either Remnants armor or Brotherhood armor (easier) and a a few Med-X and psycho or Slasher if you bother raising the survival skill a bit
get ED-E and either Veronica or Lily to help you get all those (their unarmed skills are better than Boone's or Cass's)
after you get at least 1/2 all those skills head over to Benny at the Tops casino with speech at 80 and kill him in his room (saving you the trouble of killing all the guards in the casino), now you get access to the Fort (Caesar's place)
the first thing he'll order you to do is to destroy Mr. House's bunker, either you do that or not doesn't matter, what does matter is that the Praetorian guards have the best unarmed weapon in the game - the http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Ballistic_fist.
By now you should be armed and dangerous enough to kill a few surrounding Young Deathclaws in VATS
wear one of Caesar's legion outfits to disguise yourself after you get out of the building and now you'll be able to fast travel outside of the fort. This will save you the trouble of having to massacre the entire Fort while not having enough skills / Stimpaks, etc.
optional extras: you can get some special unarmed perks like http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Legion_Assault (before heading out of Caesar's tent), http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Scribe_Counter (after you go to the Ultra-Luxe with Veronica and kill one of the White Glove Society, give her their outfit and trigger the perk in a dialog)... Legion Assault is the most effective in my opinion (minimum 50 unarmed required before dialog with Lucius).
Once you have all this, life should be easy. Snipe out (preferably with at least 50-60 armor piercing .50 cals) the surrounding guards in Legate's camp, let your companions do their magic. If you have Veronica as your companion you can get a few more Ballistic Fists as loot by now, repair 'em, and give them to Veronica, now you've doubled your fire power.
then get close enough to the stairway to Legate's tent just enough so he appears in your threat detector as a friendly, but not close enough to trigger the conversation with him then head into a spot where you can get a comfortable visual on him, save, then drop a mini nuke on his a$$ with the Fat Man, that should cripple him on a direct hit (if you miss you can load that save again).
read all the magazines that you need (guns, energy weapons, unarmed, melee), take the Slasher and Med-X and whatever else you got for damage resistance/leverage, wait till he get up close to you and finally hit him with a barrage of uppercuts / crosses... If he survives, hit him with a legion assault or 2 and you're done.

Basically this route builds you into a very powerful Bruce Lee type that can kill anything (but a legendary Deathclaw) in 3 punches or less. You know you're powerful enough if you and your companions can comfortably handle yourselves vs. 3-4 Deathclaws.

Back on subject. Riot Shotgun, 'Shotgun Surgeon' perk, 'And Stay Back' perk and magnum buckshot. Toss in a dose of slasher just for fun and eat a wasteland omelet (hardcoe).
