Let's all congradulate Bethesda (come He! or high water)

Post » Wed May 11, 2011 3:42 am

I'll probably get beat'n for this, but I thought perhaps that we should give Bethesda our thanks for developing a game that (if you are like me) has entertained us for 10's, if not 100's, of hours so far. Compared to other FPS/RPG hybrids, nothing comes close to the scope of Fallout: New Vegas. Most of us, including me, have a grocery shopping list of things to complain about in regards to play-ability, bugs, and ridiculous oversites, which I will address personally in a few in subsequent posts. Regardless, I find myself in awe at the scale of this game, having played and finished 3 full rounds so far and working on my 4th, all without the latest patch and never getting tired of the game play. If Bethesda can promise to continually improve and expand upon this franchise, then they can count on me to support them (with $$$$) on future endeavors. Having said that, I would like to extend my appreciation to the developers for their on-going hard work to make the Fallout Universe into a gamer's wet dream.

Umm, Obsidian developed it. Bethesda Softworks published it. Bethesda Game Studios developed Fallout:3.

Yep.
And I wholeheartedly support their continued collaborations to produce Post-Apocalyptic Simulators.

I would like to thank Obsidian from making a mediocre title (Fallout 3) into a fantastic one (New Vegas).

It's funny how fast people are to jump in and scream "OBISIDIAN IS TEH MAKER OF IT" whenever something good is said about New Vegas, but whenever something bad is said, it's magically Bethesdas fault..

Well if it is in regards to bugs, it is Bethesda's fault. I do believe that Bethesda bugtested the game. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I've been so deep into Bethesdas games since the first days of Morrowind. Morrowind gave me that magical feeling of a world I could toy with and god did I ever.
I feel if it wasn't for Bethesda pioneering the idea in the first place. These games would not be here.
However I do recognize that "New Vegas" is the very best of all the games since Morrowind. I accept that Obsidian have done a ruddy good job putting this game back into ground breaking mode. The quests, the atmosphere and the humor have given me back that magic feeling once again.
The Bugs are really not that bad considering the achievements and depth of the game.
The patch paranoia about P3 v PC v Ruddy Commodore 64 / Sinclair Spectrum however is. :shakehead:
Thank you Obsidian for some real entertainment again -- and --- thank you Bethesda, for allowing it to happen.

Thank you Bethesda for letting Obsidian make New Vegas  :fallout: I am sure you had people working on it but still you made the right call with Obsidian. Now I just hope you learn from them and make FO4 even better IE don't go back to FO3. Keep the Reputation System, Damage Threshold, hardcoe mode, oh and get get Obsidian to help you write FO4.

I'll offer up my thanks to everyone involved in making this game. Despite its flaws, it has thoroughly entertained me for weeks, and it will continue to do so.

So anyone that wants to contradict your premise about praising an unplayable game is NOT OK, but any of the multitude of gamesas/Obsidian syncophants that continually hijack threads detailing the plethora of game-ending bugs and glitches asking for input those that suffer from them IS okay?

Please explain why.

NW1>NW2 ...too many bugs, had a superior story though...
KOTOR1>KOTOR2 ...KOTOR@ was unfinished...period.
AP I actually liked but it was still super flawed. NV has its flaws but is easily the best game Obsidian ever made.

BUT I WILL offer up my thanks.

FO:NV has saved me some future money. I will NOT be buying TESV:Skyrim CE nor will I be buying it new thanks to the Beth/OB team and FO:NV.

I'll be spending MY money on BioWare games since they are BUG-Free, gives us Great FREE DLC content (ME2 Cerberus Network) without delivering a broken game and the need of of worthless patches, and are always mortal-lock to win GotY unlike FO:NV which most likely won't even be nominated.

But unlike Obsidian, BioWare makes shallow, badly written over hyped "rpg's".

seriously ME2 was barely an RPG.

Aaaand we have more b.s. What is it with this place? Where do these statements come from???

Ok - BioWare made the Balders Gate series amongst many others - with BG2 probably being the best D&D rules export *ever* to make it to the video game format. On top of that BioWare engines powered most of the classic isometric RPG engines - back in the days of NW, PlaneScape, Icewind etc. Bioware have probably done more for computerised RPG's than any other company in the history of the PC gaming platform, and yes that includes our beloved Bethesda.

Come on people - keep it real.

Thanks to all the folks who made this game. You rock.

I've been highly entertained for 4 replays, maybe 130-150 hours, I'm going to start another character, and I look forward to any new stuff you make. The writing carries it, same as any movie, and you guys are the superior story tellers. Yes, of course there are things to improve; I know you already have a long list.

But the scope and quality of what you've made so far is awesome.

Thanks!

EDIT: And, as a demonstration of how impressed I am by Obsidian's writing, I'm going to ignore my deep dislike of turn-based combat and get 1 & 2, if I can make 'em work on my PC rig.

As far as I can recall... Obsidian and Bioware have roots starting in the company Black Isle that did Fallout and BG 1

or maybe Black Isle was the publisher for both.... I dunno.

Well, I won't be an [censored]. Thank you Beth for ressurecting the franchise, and then allowing the "old breed" (Black Isle/Obsidian) to re-create the good old Fallout we knew and loved. Sorta. :goodjob:

Newsflash: Bethesda was actually responsible for quality assurance. Just take a look at the credits.
