Let me guess....The Imperials of Skyrim were always based on

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 5:01 pm

Well, you know what they say about ease of access

This supports my theory that all previous games in the TES series represent Tamriel in its Classical Ages (Ancient Greece/Rome)
with the races representing (this is obviously subjective and only superficially):
Imperials: Roman Empire
Altmer: Ancient Greeks/Pratchett style Fantasy elves
Redguards: The Moorish empires
Khajitt: Hebrews(?)/Egypt/Native Americans
Argonians: Maya/Olmec
Dunmer: Babylon/Ancient Persia
Bosmer: Aztec/Mirkwood elves
Orsimer: Mongols/Timurids
Nords: Norse/Danes
Bretons: Germanic Tribes/Gaul
Skyrim represents the world moving into it's equivelant of the Dark Ages, so in future games I expect the races to represent these more (politaclly and superficially):
Imperials: Byzantine Empire
Altmer: Third Reich/Fantasy elves (obviously they don't fit the wise philosphers mould anymore)
Redguards: Ottoman Empire
Khajitt: Mali Empire/Iriquois
Argonians: Maya/Aztec
Dunmer: Babylon/Ancient Persia (in their medieval form)
Bosmer: Mirkwood elves
Orsimer: Mongols/Timurids/Huns
Nords: Norse/Denmark
Bretons: France/Holy Roman Empire

just my ravings.

I was thinking about this progression earlier today. Right now, I almost feel as if Tamriel is on the verge of an industrial revolution. It wouldn't suprise me at all if in the next TES, we see a lot more technology. We already have Windmills and sawmills. I don't think it is unthinkable that when TES6 releases, and we find ourselves another 2-300 years in the future (or more) that they may have the beginings of an industrial society. Assuming there isn't a neer extinction level event forcing everyone back into pre-medieval societies.

What are you on about? Tiber Spetim used robots to conquer High Elves, because he knew he would loose in a hand to hand battle. Have you been to the dwarven ruins lately?

An Agricultural revolution I think he meant, Tiber Septim was in the Mythic age, the Tes games from Arena to Morrowind in the Classical age and now we are moving into the mediaeval age of Tamriel, so smaller empires more subfactions, more duchies and counties, more bandits, mounted combat, agricultural revolution etc.

I think a progression of ages and technology would be a nice addition. Tamriel shouldn't be static in that regard I think.

Other than that. I'd hope Beth stops progression at the time Tamriel gets it's equivalent of our gunpowder revolution. Arquebus' and early muskets are fine imho, they were still too crude to completely out date physical combat (hence pike and shot tactics evolved, combining arms), but beyond that TES would quickly become Fallout in a fantasy setting imho.

I'm sure a handy cataclysm/meteor can put Tamriel back into the Dark ages if they get to progressed. I wouldn't mind a Renaissance of sorts (minus the combat side of things)

There are Aedra around. Would they let Nirn be destroyed by a meteor?

Not destroyed, but something along the lines of Dragonlance, where a meteor set the world back a few thousand years.

So Imperials now dress in their fancy Boroque Italian style heavy plate armour and Thalmors dressed in Cardinal Robes?

What a shame. And i tought that they were good guys. Except of Akatosh, since Alduin wants to eat the world.

Although I think the Agricultural revolution would be far enough (and through the Medieval Age of course)

So after 600 years, how will Tamriel looks like? I will make a guess:

Magic being overused as weapons. Dwemer machinery walking on the roads. Bigger population and very feel racism. Technology? Doesn't change.

I'd say it would get to the medieval golden age and stagnate.

This. Tamriel has magic, real world has technology. Look what happened to tech heads in Skyrim. They became obsolete.

No, they poofed theirselves out of existence. The rest of Tamriel is far from really understanding the Dwemer and their technology let alone reproduce something like it, plus Dwemer technology mostly doesn't seem that practical at all.

Not really. The Dwemer misused one piece of technology, or rather thought it would work in another way then it did, which caused them to become extinct. A lot of people might assume however that they were cursed by the gods for doing things they really shouldn't have been doing.

Anyways technology in Tamriel will not change, the best you can hope for is something like the Dwemer technology, and even that is unlikely. Politics, wars, landmasses, borders all of that can and will change but the overal level of technology? It's been 4000 something years since the Dwemer dissapeared and Tamriel still hasn't even matched them, so it's just not going to happen.

Their mechanical technology looks too simple to work in the real world. Their technology could probaly go even far. They could probaly create super bombs and much more eficient flying machines. Like the Sloads probaly does. They could probaly also create something like a Zepelin that bombard towns. You know this a TES game. and we had many many things that contradicted the LORE so far.

It's not going to happen. By the way, the Dwemer did build airships. You can do quests for that in the Morrowind Fighters Guild.
