Lets get Critical!

Post » Sat Oct 08, 2011 12:03 pm

After reading some threads on character builds, I see that I am the only one who uses weapons based purley on their DAM and DPS and not crits.
Am I alone in this way? I also think I am the only one who has NEVER used chems.
Is it a Crit build better for some reason? Someone enlighten me!

Depends on the character. I have several different ones. EW is critical based. Heavy-EW is damage based. Guns is damage based. Melee is critical based. Heavy-melee is damage based. Explosives is exclusively damage based.

Hmm... I always found that crits are very important if you're going a sneak/sniper build, as sneak crits are the best way to take out enemies with them alerting others. On the far end of the spectrum crits don't matter with explosive characters since the splash damage is so great, and you cant really target which body parts to hit.

Contrary to popular belief, Guns now equally benefit from a Criticals heavy character as EWs did. In fact more so since the Guns will also give you more variety of weapons.

Pre-DLC it used to be true that EWs suited a criticals dependant character but the DLCs introduced alot of guns that have critical multipliers of x 1.5 , x2.0 and even some more x2.5. Guns have 5 weapons who have critical multiplier of x 2.5 or more, compared to EWs one, pew pew. Unless you count the alien blaster as well.

EWs also inflict less critical damage compared to guns. Paciena inflicts more Critical damage than any EW. Whereas the massive 50 health Tesla Cannon does a critical damage of 40. Same can be said for Gauss Rifle.

I can tell you who does NOT benefit from a Criticals heavy build, Explosives character.

I prefer the high crit build for several reasons. But to put it in a nutshell, I think that a high crit build is much more efficient and more combat effective. It also feels a little bit more realistic. One shot can do over 2000 damage if you have the right build and the right weapon, whereas if you didn't score a critical hit, the shot wouldn't do nearly as much damage. Also, if you like energy weapons, then you can vaporize people more often with a high crit build. Which is always satisfying.

I was only refering to my character cause his main weapon is the Medicine Stick (x1 critical multiplier).

The GRA Tri-Beam Laser Rifle does a maximum of 148.5 Critical Damage.

You can build DAM.
It just always ends up becoming a Tank Character.
The two go well together.

I go for no luck for major skills and make more character have the least amount of chance for crits too make the game hard.

You could take heavy handed, but that's about it. There really isn't a "damage" build, but there might be a player who relies on damage alone due to having a low critical %
