Leveling up with less perks

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 8:04 am

I like the new perk/skill system. This new system encourages replays because it encourages a variety of customized characters. I'm playing a cowboy this playthrough, and next perhaps a starship trooper, or a tanky streetfighter. I also like the challenge of planning the character out. To me, that is half the fun of rpgs.

When I took educated I guess I misunderstood the perk.

To my understanding it was supposed to give me 2 more skill points every level but I now understand that It only increases it by 2. I thought it would work like: lvl 15- you get 15 skill points F/Ex and then if you had educated you would get 17 at lvl 16 and at lvl 17 you would get 19.

That would be very very very over powered.
lvl 4 -13 skill points (not educated)
lvl 5 - 15 sp (educated from now on)
lvl 6 - 17
lvl 7 - 19
lvl 8 - 21
lvl 9 - 23
lvl 10 - 25
lvl 11 - 27
lvl 12 - 29
lvl 13 - 31
lvl 14 - 33
lvl 15 - 35
lvl 16 - 37
lvl 17 - 39
lvl 18 - 41
lvl 19 - 43
lvl 20 - 45
lvl 21 - 47
lvl 22 - 49
lvl 23 - 51
lvl 24 - 53
lvl 25 - 55
lvl 26 - 57
lvl 27 - 59
lvl 28 - 61
lvl 29 - 63
lvl 30 - 65

Combined this makes up to 1053 skill points.
Just a little bit overpowered. :P

The whole point of perks in the first 2 fallouts were to specialize your character.... if you want a mindless game where you can do everything you should stick to fps and adventure titles. Do people not understand what role-playing means?

Black and white evil and good system where you get to lvl 999 in the end and get Monstrosous Doom Sword +99 in Strength and +999 in attack?

It's sentiments like this that make me resent the community surrounding RPGs.

RPGs allow each player to play it their way. If I want a godlike character, I can get one. If you want a realistic character, you can get one. In the end we still get to role play how we both want. You get your frustrating STALKER-esque build and I get my god-like jack of all trades build. In the end we're both roleplaying. Role-playing doesn't mean you have to have a realistic character that has to run crying back to the doctor every time he bumps into a mutated fly. It gives you the option to if you want, but it also allows others to have a character so bad ass they make Chuck Norris look like a pansy. THAT is the reason I play them. I can still be a badass mofo if I want to, but at the same time I don't have to be.

Well, that and the only place I can find a good story until EP3 releases is in RPGs.

Perhaps it is you who doesn't get it? At any rate stop looking down on people who want to role-play a badass. Not all of us want a realistic idea of how we'd do in post apocalyptia, and if we ever get masochistic there's always STALKER.

Unlike FO3 where you could become "godlike" in FNV at level 30 you are still a human being, and deathclaws are still the greatest non-human hunter in the land. An expert hunter IRL can still be killed by a lion. But where a lion will die with a headshot, imagine that we had genetically engineered a badass predator. Something designed to hunt humans and survive a lot of punishment. That's a deathclaw. Unless you get lucky, or come in with some crazy weaponry/ammo, they are likely to whip your ass.

Except even if Deathclaws existed irl, 1 bullet from a hunting rifle would most likely slow them down so much so that the the next 2 shots would kill/down them for good. Hunting accidents are like 90% a person gets shot. Animal attacks rarely happens and when it does, its usually a Bear involved not a Lion or a Tiger.

Why is it that when i level up i get the usual choice of picking my skill points but only get the choice of perks every two levels.. also why when it says 'Adding a skill point to intelligence will allow you to add more skill points when leveling up' When infact it gives me either 15 - 16 - 17 skill points each time... Is it me or does this game just generally feel like a step down from fallout 3 ...?
As was said... INt increase brings a fractional skill point increase.

... I kind of want it to be every 3 levels, honestly.
Same here.

IMO that is FO3 & NV

What does Role-Playing mean? ~Serious question... there are a dozen answers floating around; to which one do you ascribe?
*(PM; as its off topic.)

I liked getting 1 perk every 2 lvls until later in the game but I used the mod someone linked above to change that. I think the devs should make perks per how many lvls an pick-able option before you start the game, so each person can decide what they want no matter if it's every lvl, every 2nd, 3rd, 10th or none....just my 2 caps
