Levelling

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 7:42 am

Hello,

Sorry if this has already been mentioned but I found a bug today where I leveled to Level 3 and I added my skill points and 5mins later I wasn't happy with them so I loaded a save from where I was level 2. I then leveled again to 3 about 5mins later and it didnt ask me to increase my skills, I went into the skills tab and I noticed it increased the ones I did before.

I dont know if its bug with leveling to level 3 or just a leveling bug in general.

Thanks,

Scott.

The short explanation is that all of the game information is saved on the steam cloud.

Hence you doing a game altering quest, deciding you miss clicked on a speech check, and then loading a save from a few minutes ago. The actions you took still stay in affect, even though you loaded an earlier save. It's not supposed to be like this, and it doesn't happen all the time. But during my play through which lasted about 50 hours, I had about a dozen clear cut cases of this.

The worst was when I went into the bunker under the fort and blew it up, then loaded and didn't blow it up. I show up at the lucky 38 and everything is hostile towards me shooting rockets. The game is having trouble synchronizing with the information that is streaming to steam.

I found it was much better to stop the sync and just run locally saved games.

So the problem IS with Steam Cloud (for some reason it syncs the very first save files you made the very first time you played the game) in other words, the save files you make DURING the current session will work until you start up a NEW one.

So first things first, the actual save files are located here, make frequent backups of these files, just in case:
C:\Users\*Username*\Documents\My Games\FalloutNV\Saves\

Now in order for Cloud to not sync back to your old save files and allow the previous ones to show up you have to delete EVERYTHING in this folder:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\9298493\22380\

(The '9298493' folder might have a different number for you, just find the folder that contains 22380 inside of it, this is the number for New Vegas on Steam). Once that's done, THEN you can launch your game and the previous save files will be there (not the ones you already lost, those are gone, unless you backed them up).

In order for you not to have to manually delete these files everytime, right click on 22380 and follow these instructions:

1. Right click > Properties > Security tab
2. Highlight SYSTEM, click ADVANCED and then CHANGE PERMISSIONS
3. Now hightlight the first item on the list with ALLOW as its type, click on EDIT and tick the first box on DENY.
4. Repeat this process for each item on the list until they're all under DENY

In the future (hopefully not to far -.-) you can just go back to this window and remove all the deny permissions to restore normal Cloud function.

I hope this helps, it's annoying, but the only solution until a fix comes.
