Yes. I mean aren't you used having that hand filled with a light shield from the previous games?

Level 21 1h + board and light armor user having a blast splitting between health and stamina evenly so far. Haven't done any enchanting and very little smithing so far. Playing on expert its actually really fun and pretty easy aside from a few battles where the 2h npc can literally 2 shot you through block, but i think i was a little under leveled for those places when that was happening(still beat him though chyea!)

The only really vital perk in this build that i can see is Quick Reflexes in the block tree. Means as long as you have some stamina you will pretty much never get hit with a power attack. Elemental Protection could also be seen as vital since dragons are somewhat more difficult since your damage is lower meaning you have to outlast longer, but any pillar makes the fight a joke but some of my hardest battles with this build were dragons where i had no reliable LoS. Elemental Protection would pretty much eliminate that problem itself. I can see this build being ridiculously good once fully enchanted but since your damage won't be super high, you might get some chances to enjoy it.

My character is using a Light Armour and Block combination, and it's working wonderfully. My main 3 skills are LA, block and one handed, and I've perked up block and LA to the extent that blocking an attack now does me practically no damage, and shield bashing and power attacking works wonderfully (and I haven't even picked up the faster stamina regen perk yet!).

This combination makes for much more exciting combat, where instead of going in hack'n'slash with nary a thought to your safety, you dance around your enemy and wait for the perfect moment to strike. I heartily recommend it as a fun, challenging and rewarding combat style

i rolled HA warrior first got to lvl then played a assassin for awhiel then rerolled a LA warrior. So far dmg to me wise im still seeign the same until i get points in my LA skills then it pretty much seems to even out. the only drawback im seeing so far is not really naythign to do with LA itself but a problem with the smithign in the game, whereas if u roll LA ur gonna have to put points into all the other HA smithing to upgrade ur WEASPONS. Which i chaulk up to being a design flaw of smithign if corrected would make it no deference if u rolled LA or HA, jiust what u prefer or looks.

I wish they would change smithign to were u had to put points into the tree to CRAFT the armor but not to enhance it. shot id settle with just the sharping part of weapons then enchanceing the shield and armor.

I also use light armour and a shield. I see no point in heavy armour in general, since LA has the better perks and the armour cap is fairly low in Skyrim. It's most a cosmetic issue, though. Go with whatever feels or looks better to you. :)

I'm rolling light armor and shield. Works fine so far at level 28. I'm wearing a mix of scale and elven armor, with a shield that gives +30% blocking effectiveness. It is by far the easiest way to kill those annoying high-end draugr punks. Your armor doesn't block as much as heavy armor, but your shield trivializes almost any hit anyway. I can go toe to toe with a cave bear and come out with 75% health. Just keep your shield up, bash people in the face when they're winding up for an attack, attack quickly while they're recovering (3 hits with dagger, 2 with sword or axe, 1 with mace).

Have you gone fully into Smithing for the weapon enhancements?

Went to level 46 or so on Master with light armor + shield. You'll get one shotted if you don't block but you can do pretty good and I enjoyed it a lot. After that I decided to make a full suit of ebony to see how that looked, and I've been wearing that for the time being.

The shield skills are extremely useful and powerful no matter what armor you use. If you have enough stamina you can keep something locked down forever, or disarmed so as to do next to no damage to you.

Block is by far the single most effective defensive skill in the game, and I've actually found that using it with heavy armor makes it hard to die to anything except ice mages (who ignore the armor stat, anyway) and dragons who decide to use their finishing insta-kill on you at half health even though when you block their attack you only take a tiny bit of damage.

That said, I'm rolling around with a shield, clothing, and a dagger and loving every minute of it. My only beef is that the arrow deflection perk only works if the arrow physically hits the shield, which I'd be ok with if it weren't for the fact that archer AI is a crack shot at hitting your foot the minute you have your shield up.
