Light Armor

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 12:47 pm

Well I have been searching high and low for light armor gear with decent DT. The best I have found so far is Vault 34 Security Armor weighing in at 15 (pounds?) with a whopping 16 DT. Would definitely wear it if it wasn't so darn fugly. If it wasn't for the little butt-hole protection spot in back I would consider swallowing my bride and wearing it. But anyways, anyone find some other nice light armor?

Eh, if you're getting up into the 15-20lb range, it's almost worth just biting the bullet and going with 25lb combat armor. The Mk2 version never wore down in 10-15 levels worth of play at the end. The Combat Armor Mark 2 was worth every cap I paid for it.

Although either the Gladiator or Vault 34 Armored suit looks very tempting.

Sad truth: Chinese Stealth is 12 DT, and all those legion armors will get you shot by NCR

I got excited when I saw gladiator armor, but there doesn't seem a way one could keep it. Chinese stealth armor always seemed out of place to me in fallout; walking around the wasteland dressed like splinter cell.

So I guess i'll stick with the bounty hunter duster.

I finally made the switch to the Vault 34 Security Armor from my Armored Vault 13 suit. I didn't bother with the Leather Armor, Reinforced since it was only a difference of 2DT and I thought the 13 armor looked cooler, though I have given a set to my followers (Boone until he got his own upgrade).

Yeah, the Vault 34 Security Armor is way more ugly compared to my former armor, but it offers a significant upgrade in DT for the exact same weight. I'm good with it until I decide to maybe make the upgrade to combat armor or power armor if I get training for it. I'm almost 30, but I usually kill everything before they get in striking range (stealthy sniper), but since I've been running with Veronica lately, having better armor is becoming a need.

I feel just the same way about the vault 34 armour. Goofy as hell. I wish you could download the preorder DLC armoured vault suit.

I hate all the light armour I found so far that has a higher DT than 10. I like basic leather and raider badlands armour but it's no good for later levels. I started wearing basic clothing for running around and carrying around either hardened leather or Vault 34 armour and only wearing it in combat. I did that for a bit with combat armour but I find movement intolerably slow, and it's bad for sneeking.

I'd wear NCR fatigues if it didn't make me a target.

Lets face it there's just no really cool looking light armour that will protect you and not paint a big target on your back.

I wish merc grunt outfit had a little more DT like it did in fallout 3. But a white T-shirt really shouldn't have any DT I guess

Gabreil: No offense on the stealth armor and I very much appreciate your help.

Well, decision decisions huh?
I actually like it this way.
Why should the "cool" armor be the best one.
Go goofy armor! :D

Would be interesting to see more armor (Goofy and none goofy) implemented into the game. Especially co-existing with the wacky wasteland perk. I wanna see 10 fiends dressed like clowns trying to kill a death claw with water guns

Or a guy in black ragged clothing with a black coat and top hat with lots of hair in front of his face wielding a katana melting down when a child sprays him with a water pistol. (Yay for Six String Samurai reference!)
But yeah I think they'll add too powerful stuff with the DLC's like they did in FO3.

Fact is anything heavier than leather makes you a very slow target with rifles equiped.
Player DT is not really worth it as anything firing low - mid ap rounds comes in groups and lowers health just the same, anything stronger and fast is going to ignore any DT so go for looks.
My latest characters stuck to merc outfits, and with a good selection of energy weapons takes down anything quickly while staying at range due to fast movement.

It really doesn’t matter all that much what kind of armor you wear.

I wear MK2 when it hits the fan, but that’s mostly for realism.

Most of the time I do just fine in the Duster, Rebreather, and a slave scarf.

Are we playing the same game? few enemies use AP rounds, in fact almost no foe uses AP rounds. I can't recall a foe off hand other then the deathclaw who simply ignores DT.
Now if your fighting a nighstalker or something in melee you might think it ignores DT it doesn't the damage is just three times what the stylish light armor gives. I have to ask what is the highest DT you've played the game with 16? Taking 30dmg instead of 70 is always a good decision and the speed penalty from heavy armor is incredibly minor.

MK2 is the ugliest armor in the entire game series,

Chinese Stealth Suit, plus re-breather, with a Mk. 2 Combat Helmet and assuming you got the DT implant, you should have a armor rating of 24... that's not bad considering you have a plus five in sneak and can breathe underwater and you haven't even invested in the 6 DT you get from two perks of Toughness, bringing you to a whopping 30 DT... That's more than Power Armor! Switch between the Combat Helmet and a 1st Recon Beret and your set.

EDIT: Correction, the CSS has a DT of 14, so add a 2 to my previous build. 26 and 32 DT respectively.

Me personally I haven't had any problems using the Leather Reinforced Armor with Jury Rigging. Of course depending on the area I'm in and the enemies I'm facing I'll probably be sneaking.

T51-b PA: 25
T51-b PA Helmet: 6
Toughness 2: 6
Implant: 4
Total: 41.

STR +1
Rad Resist +33%
CHA +1

;angel:

Btw, Re-breather adds 3 DR not 3 DT. ;)

But it was a nice build for a Light character. :goodjob:

Technically no, as if you count the implants and perks they should apply to both power armor and light armor. I really haven't found the speed difference between light and heavy to be very meaningful.

For maximum DT
Remnant Power Armor 28
Remnant Helm 8
Toughnessx2 6
Implant 4
Total: 46
For added protection, Whisky Rose,, Casses companion perk lets you gain +4DT when you drink whiskey.

I'm talking about just the Power Armor.

Boone and I both wear this except he has no Re-breather obviously, on Hard hardcoe, we've never even came close to dieing.

How is it fair to compare power armor without perks to light armor with perks?

I was just showing how effective my build was, at its max its better than having a vanilla character with just any Power Armor (no helm) on. For having no negatives as well as being light, I think that's quite a comparison. Not to mention this build looks totally bad ass.
