light

well. my poll is about if you think lights are being overrated by some, for i have noticed some think it's all you'd ever need, in the face of all evidence that all bodytypes will be balanced.

A lot of people do seem to be overly hyped about lights. Heavies may move slowly but that just means people are coming to them instead of the other way 'round.

I think lights will be a lot of fun but I also think once people try the larger weapons they'll see the benefits of the medium and heavy sizes.

I think that they will all be balanced. I think it is overrated. I also don't think that heavies will just be unstoppable tanks that can take on wave after wave of players.

I think the lights will be pretty superior. But I think it will be balanced. I think the game will be pretty fun with a whole bunch of lights running around though.

A lot of people are going to be dissapointed with how it turns out when they find out the the light may not be the best choice for stealth tactics or vantage points, and a lot of people are going to be dissapointed with the heavy finding out that its not a super tank that can withstand every blow.

Agreed we want balance but we also want clear advantages and disadvanatages to body types.

Yeah, a lot of people are putting way too much on every size and every class. Each will have its disadvantages. I am willing to bet a pretty penny that there will be a lot of disappointed people out there when they come to realize that they cant go crawling through a ventilation duct to get behind enemy lines and back stab everyone, or run in between bullets or take massive amounts of damage and just shrug it off. There will be balance.

people tend to focus on lights and heavies because they are the extremes and complete opposites

speed and agility is always a perk..but if you don't know how to fully utilize those abilities with cover, you're screwed....i think you give up more than you get...better to take middle of the road accept your losses of speed and make up for with firepower and safer tactics

It seems like most people either overestimate them or underestimate them. They're fragile, yes, but apparently Mediums and Heavies aren't as tough as we once thought either. They're not walking fortresses. It all basically comes down to speed and positioning vs. durability and firepower. No matter what, whether it's Light vs. Heavy, Medium vs. Medium, or whatever, I think the better players will almost always come out on top.

EDIT: I voted yes though. I know, I just know, that people are going to try to be ninjas. And of course then they'll complain when they keep getting killed.

I voted no. I don't think people are overestimating lights. I think they are overestimating operatives. No one has said anything bad about light engineers, medics, or soldiers. No one has even mentioned the benefits of being the first soldier on the line, or the fastest healer in the match, or even the wall of landmines blocking the light-only paths. If anything, the lights as a whole are underestimated.

Medic:

Light- Run in, heal, run out.

Heavy- Run in and hold back some enemies while passing out health.

Mid- Run in, shoot a guy, heal, run out.

Sound about right? In a simplified sense?

I really don't give a [censored] about whether people overestimate Lights, I'm a damn good player and i know how to use them. In TF2, I'm able to spawn kill as a scout (i don't though, spawn killing ruins the game), and that includes against Soldiers and Heavies. So no, they aren't overrated. It just seems people don't understand the right ways to play as a Light

people are just excited by everything in the game, a little overexcited in many cases. I mean there is a lot to get excited about. I'm sure most realise that they won't just run and gun down everything once the release dates start looming.

i don't. I expect that when i play as a light soldier, i will die a lot at first. I'll probly spend most of my time behind cover just popping out and shooting. At least until i get used to it

Hell yes they're being overestimated by some! Which isn't to say they aren't really cool but, if what some people seem to think were true, everyone in the same room as an enemy light would be dead from the simple awesome that is the Almighty Light. Some people are putting so much on them that there's no way they could live up to their hype without destroying game balance.

Again, I'm not saying lights svck, far from it. Every class and body type will have its use, but the light isn't The Answer to Everything. That said, I'm sure I'll spend quite a bit of time as a light.

As a light soldier I would run around giving teammates ammo and chucking grenades like a madman.

I think that people are really excited for the SMART system and therefore all want to be lights. The heavy gives you the benefit of firepower, but we've seen that before. The SMART system is a totally new feature in the fps genre causing people to want to be lights. Once the SMART craze wears off the whole light buzz will go away.

it was my anticipation for that light craze that made me choose to go heavy, though it actually suits my way of gaming, i would've gone medium if everyone wasn't so "omg look at me way up here"-ish
