Lighting issues since 1.4

Post » Wed May 30, 2012 7:04 pm

Hey everybody,

I just wanted to know if anyone else has been having serious lighting issues with Skyrim since 1.4 was released. With the game running on ultra settings, I have a constant flickering of bright light that prevents me from playing. I have to lower my settings just to make the game playable, however the light is still extremely bright during the day and around sources of light, such as candles, fire, etc. The top picture is on lower settings while the bottom one is on ultra settings. If anyone has a solution to this problem, or if it truly is just the new patch, any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.

Does this happen in other games? Are you running mods? What happens if you remove them? What about your graphic card, did you do something to it? etc.

Hm, just a shot in the dark, but try disabling mods and/or deleting your ini.
This sometimes helps with issues like that.
Don't forget to backup your old ini first.

Alright. The lighting issue has been fixed as I have uninstalled, reinstalled, and disabled all mods. The game is now stuttering as I move around the world however. Instead of there being a smooth transition as I run, the entire game just stutters. Perhaps it's the FPS? Also I'm having strange pixelation appearing on the screen. Anyone have any solutions to rectify this? Thanks in advance.

Not to alarm you, but pixelation can often be a symptom of the graphics card overheating. Might want to check the temperature.

We would need some info on your system specs in order to help.

If you are using an AMD/ATI card and the Catalyst 12.2 release, uninstall and go back to 12.1 (or whatever worked for you).
Apparently some people are having this issues with 12.2.

I do not believe this is the case as I have no issues with any other game. This is strictly a Skyrim issue. I'm running HD Radeon 5870 x2 (crossfire mode), Intel Core i7 940 @ 2.93GHz, 6GB RAM, Windows 7.

I'm going to attempt your idea Ez Zoido as Skyrim used to work perfectly fine on ultra settings. I have a feeling it might be Catalyst.
