A's List of Recommended Mods

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 4:39 am

As a new member to this community, I must thank you for this extensive list of recommended Mods. Owning Oblivion for only a month, I recently found out how expansive the modding community is here. I have been going bananas searching through 1000's of mods on tessource wondering what everyone is using and for something that is not going to break my game or make me overpowered.

For the new beginner, this list is a Godsend to help round out the game in a well balanced way and with tons of eye candy! Thanks!

Welcome to the community. Don't forget to download Oblivion mod manager (much like Aelius recommends). It's a simple tool which allows you to load/disable mods as well as easily change the load order among other things. Should you run into problems with your mods, it will prove to be the perfect troubleshooting tool.

'ello everyone. Sorry, I've been gone a couple weeks. On-and-off hunting plus some other things. Back now though, just got home. It's late though, and I'm tired so I'll get around to catching up on the releases and forum posts tomorrow morning. :)

Here's one that everyone should have. It's saved me from having to start a game over.
Stat Restore

Hmm, I don't understand what use this mod would have...

Stat Restore fixes your characters stats when mods break them.

I had my HP at 45/75. Resting, healing, sleeping, etc. wouldn't get me up to full health. The console couldn't get me full health. It could give me 75/105 hp, but it couldn't fix my character. I ran Stat Restore, selected Health, and it fixed it. Yay!

I've used it since to fix permanently negative speed and fatigue.

Okay here's the update. Sorry, it's a few days late; I've been ill during that time.

http://www.tessource.net/files/file.php?id=11451: Delivers what the title promises; classical swords. Swords that replace the originals. Swords that... make sense.
http://www.tessource.net/files/file.php?id=11495: Somewhat like Morrowind's beginning, this mod puts the player on a ship, either in Anvil or the Imperial City, instead of the prison. The main quest is still intact, of course.
http://www.tessource.net/files/file.php?id=11581: This mod makes it impossible to fail a harvest. How do you "fail" to pick up a leaf anyway?
http://www.tessource.net/files/file.php?id=11629: This mod adds a capsized ship near the Anvil coast. It's a very cool idea, to be honest. The entire ship, when inside, is upside down. Yep! So to look at the floor you need to move your mouse up. Very neat indeed.
http://www.tessource.net/files/file.php?id=11638: This mod adds a wrecked ship near the Anvil coast, underwater. Complete with dead crewmen, too!
http://www.tessource.net/files/file.php?id=11688: This mod adds a very well-textured suit of chainmail armour to the game.
http://www.tessource.net/files/file.php?id=11698: This mod adds dozens of new well-textured realistic weapons to the game.
http://www.tessource.net/files/file.php?id=11705: This mod adds a suit of well-textured leather armour to the game.
http://www.tessource.net/files/file.php?id=11778: This mod adds dozens of working clocks to the gameworld. Including clocktowers in which you can even walk inside! The clocks work regardless of your timescale.

Hmm... and why Francesco's Leveled Creatures Items doesn't labeled as "Outstanding mods, simply must-haves"? It is pretty much "Must Have" IMHO. But I'm just curious.

Aelius, please consider reviewing the http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=OblivionMods.Detail&id=68399&id=1500 mod by AVStoryteller. The only word I can describe my experience playing it is Pleasure. AVStoryteller not only carefully done a beautiful estate mod, but also created a nice lore-friendly quest. He definitely has spent a lot of time in Morrowind. I am surprised that this mod is not listed anywhere (including the estate site) and does not have an official thread in forums. Arrow

I always look to this for new mods...

But I noticed that recently you added two shipwreck mods, because, well, they're shipwrecks.

Theres been a mod which adds about 8 shipwrecks scattered around the place since December last year...

http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=OblivionMods.Detail&id=2139&comment_page=2 - Soeffingths

I had great fun when it was new, searching all the new wrecks as they were released. All of them are very well made and unique... So um... Why not have a look at it?

I haven't actualy read any of the topics other than the first page with all the mods on it, so I'm not sure if it's been mentioned before.

Thanks for a great list. I use you list in conjunction with the list at http://www.atomicmpc.com.au/article.asp?CIID=36919

I really like the way you rate or ID the mods based on popularity, your preference...etc. However, would you consider making a load order list of the mods you use.

I used this list to get all the most popular mods that were also your favorite, with a couple exception.

Thanks for the list, haven't played in about a year and trying to play catch up. :)

This maybe the a good place to ask for help, so here goes. :)

Is there an Alternate statring mod that allows us to completly skip the MQ, i.e. never gets in quest book?
I have tried reading the readme files on about 3 of the Alt start mods but none are clear that you still don't have the quest and seem to only be skipping the tutorial.

Secondly, is it possible yet (modded) to have Kavatch fully restored while never doing/starting the MQ?
I was hoping to have the town undamaged without being forced to do the MQ.

Thanks for any tips. :)

I haven't fully tried this one yet, but my room mate loves it: "Alternative Arrive by Ship by Robert Evrae" http://www.tessource.net/files/file.php?id=11495 You arrive by boat and you can start in Anvil or Imperial City. I believe the main quest only starts when you kill a rat with the amulet in it or something like that, and you can avoid doing that, I think. You get to set your beginning wealth, background, etc. Very quick setup for a character. Check the readme to be sure about the main quest though.

If you don't want to do the main quest, there's this one: http://www.tessource.net/files/file.php?id=2978 "Alt Start with Main Quest cut off" by TheDCProject. There's also a patch to turn the MQ back on it you want.

Thanks, finniksa. :)

It looks like there is a Kvatch, which is a year old nearing completion and seems to suggest that, Kvatch was never attacked and sees to have done a very good job.

"Now your question will be answered: How did Kvatch looked before the attack? So this mod isn't that the city is rebuilt, it is that the city never attacked."
http://www.tessource.net/files/file.php?id=11751

Anyone tried this, yet?

Just wanted to say thanks, for this list!
It helps enormously finding non-conflicting mods.

Thumbs Up!

Sorry if this has already been asked, but can all of the unique landscape mods be active at the same time, so that the entire province is revamped?

I have them all running and haven't noticed any problems or bugs. Their land spaces don't seem to overlap because all the Unique Landscape people work together to avoid accidentally overwriting others territories, I believe. :)

Hopefully how? (one of the devs with UL) will let you know 100% though. Also, in the meantime, you can check here: http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=726319

The town of Bartholm should be on this list. Its an amazing mod with tons of fun quests. The combat seems a bit easy for my level 2 character but its still great in my opinion
