Little Things That Annoy You at Your Job

Post » Thu Jul 28, 2011 12:10 pm

Life is full of minor, daily annoyances. Here are three things about where I work that really get on my nerves.

1. Our bathroom used to have a paper towel machine, but now they've replaced it with a hot-air dryer. This means that my hands never get dry, the door knob is always wet, and I can hear the loud "whoosh" of compressed air shake my cubicle walls every twenty or so minutes.

2. I work upstairs, in a loft. The air conditioning never seems to reach me, yet every bug that gets into the building immediately comes up here and buzzes around my head. Downstairs it's icy cold. Up here, it's always a sauna.

3. There's no good place to stop for coffee near my work - and I have a 25 mile drive. Everyday I have to stop a gas station, and settle for burnt, gritty, swill-style coffee. It does not sit well in my stomach.

So, what are your gripes? What really bugs you?

As a junior lifeguard, I hate it when parents bring their children to the pool, then start listening to their iPods. It's like they don't even care!

I also hate it when people litter in the pool, or worse, pee.

1. Long hours and I have to bring my work on my breaks...which, then, aren't really breaks.
2. By the end of the day, my clothes are never as clean as they were at the beginning.
3. Tasks are performed in a repetitive nature and often entirely thankless.
4. Very little efficiency.

Despite that, there are a ton of perks, though. ;)

I collect glasses in a bar. I'm only seventeen so give me a break.

I hate people who will tell you not to take their drink because there's some still left when I know for a fact that it's melted ice because I've been keeping an eye on their glass for the last ten minutes and it hasn't moved a centimetre.

I hate people who come all the way round to the end of the bar trying to skip queueing who just get in the way of the kitchen that I need to get to with an armful of glasses and both hands holding four or five each.

J?gerbombs annoy me because they're pretty gross to rinse out and stack in the dishwasher. I have to reach inside each one individually and get the sticky shot glass out of the sticky Red Bull glass. Rose tequila is gross as well. Stickiest [censored] going.

I hate people who hang around with no sign of moving a quarter of an hour after we've asked them to leave because it's time to lock up.

I hate the fact that it's customer service so I have to be really polite to every [censored] there.

My job involves a lot of counting, and I'm not the best at it, so it really annoys me when people think it's funny to walk past and shout random numbers. Also, someone refers to me as the Rainman of Royal Mail. I do not see it as a compliment.
We've got lots of rats outside too, and I'm not scared of them, but I'm not looking forward to when it gets cold and they creep into cars for the warmth. Or when they manage to get inside the building and make nests in the packets.

I hate it when people complain to me. Be it price, quality, product; it just generally annoys me.

I also hate it when people do not reply to my greetings. "Hey, how are you doing today!"...... :stare:

I could easily write a "Wall-o-Text" on things that bother me. So, instead, I'll just put one thing that makes my day at work tolerable.

Going home at the end of the day. Like right now, I'm going home early.

I hate my job. I work in stock control and I find it mind numbing but I need a job and this will have to do for now until the economy picks up and there are more jobs availiable.

I would go into detail but that would involve alot of swearing

Luckily there are no customers involved in my job, as I work in a warehouse. If there were customers I would have definetly been sacked by now. I have a very low tolerance for annoying people, especially teenagers and parents that don't control their kids.

I hate it when someone i'm working with forgets to include creep in the book, screwing up dimensions and infuriating the printer.

The only other things that bother me are low res images provided from the client (72ppi) and lack of content for packaging and webdesign layouts.

People who refuse to talk to cashiers. Honestly at work I stand there and greet around 300 - 400 people a day bidding them a good day and such and then there are some that can't do it once. Sure it′s a part of my job and all to greet people but out of like 10 cashiers only 2 or 3 of them me included bother with formalities and there are no benefits to that beyond being a nice person. Much like even if there are no direct benefits for a customer to greet the cashier back it′s still being nice.

And then there is taking the complaints that shouldn't go to the cashier, there are always those that would nag to the cashiers about how horrible this or that is even if it′s nothing the cashier has any control over. Like some law was passed so that stores can′t display the price on meat and milk products and while it′s a really stupid rule it′s nothing a cashier can change yet customers keep blaming them personally insulting the cashiers instead of bringing it up with those that passed the law.

Service with a smile :)

(Oh BTW I do realize it′s generally thought and accepted that it′s a part of a cashiers job to listen to the problems of the customers while being calm and collected about it but heck, it′s never been officially written down by anyone at least that I know, like Cisco has courses that partially deal with the psychology behind angry customers that I.T. professionals have to deal with, so you'd go into that expecting people to lay their emotions of frustration upon you, but there is nothing that marks cashiers as mini-shrinks so why do people feel the need to use them as such : /)

It sounds ridiculous, but the temperature the central heat/air is set on. There are more women in our office (large open cubicle room) than men and they are always cold. Always! Basically, I'm hot year because the thermostat is set at about 80F (26/27 C). One day I came in wearing a t-shirt and shorts just to illustrate the point. :banghead:

I work at a radio station, and I'd say about 50% of people who call up are completely mental.

1. I have a really crappy chair
2. People are afraid to email some things, so I get asked to do it sometimes.
3. People are afraid to update their computers themselves oftentimes, so I usually do that too.
4. My boss buying stuff without consulting me, and it ends up being crap (I know that sounds odd, but usually I am included in the technical side of purchases, and when I'm not the purchases usually svck)
5. I can easily go the entire day without sunlight (no window in my work room) -- Sometimes I think this is an advantage rather than an annoyance, though :P
6. I don't have any speakers.

1. I have a really crappy chair

I forgot about this one. I had this cheap tiny task chair that didn't come close to fitting my 6'4" 220 LB frame. I would go home in pain almost every night from it. After a couple years of agony a supervisor quit his job and while his office was vacant I switched my chair for the larger "manager" type chair that was in there. It was like night and day - all the back and leg pain disappeared. It wasn't some huge leather thing your could sleep in - just a larger, more supportive chair. You would not have believed the hue and cry from all the other peons in the office. It eventually went to the human resource manager whom I told there was no way I was giving that chair up unless they threatened me with termination. They back off and I was able to keep it. Just ridiculous what I had to go through to get a decent chair. There is a difference between a guy my size and the average woman (who constituted the majority of the office staff). I shouldn't be forced into using a small chair built for them.

That my work day is just under 8 hours, so legally I'm not entitled to an hours break, even though I definitely need it after standing up all day.

That the park is too cheap to hire cleaners, so all the ride operators have to do the cleaning as well as our own jobs.

I know the feeling. As well as doing my own stock control job I have to constantly fill in for everyone else as well. I have done almost every job at my place of work: Loading, picking, delivery, security (covering breaks). I also only get half hour break whilst the managers from what I can tell have an 9 hour long break from when they start to when they home.

The management, or lack thereof. I'm losing track of how many times I've showed up for work and they have scheduled 2 of us in for the same time, so one goes home. I come in and do my job, I expect you at least to be able to make a schedule that works. Or the fact that they have too many supervisors, who all are giving me different jobs and different priorties, then wondering why it all doesnt magically get done. Sorry your yard isnt swept, but emptying a semi trailer by hand doesnt happen in the blink of an eye.

I work for a home developer in a small office, I prepare the plans for the job supers/framers. Here's a few things that get to me.

1. Some people in this office talk...a lot. And they don't talk to anyone, they just talk out loud, narrating their day.

2. Every birthday or any celebration (there's a lot) we have cake. And you have to eat it or everyone looks at you like "what the hell is your problem"

3. Very poor time management by people above me. Ex - Every Thursday is the meeting night for my boss and the job supers. I have to stay when they need a plan signed off. It takes maybe 30m-1hr to get a plan signed, except I have to sit there til 9,10pm before we even start on the plan because my boss is busy playin around and bs'ing with the supers. So I (and the supers, they're on my side) have to stay 4-5 hours late to work for 30 min.

4. I and only one other person here are the only computer/tech literate in the office.

5. When ever my boss has some new idea or plan and he's showing it to anyone, he always speaks like it's my idea. This drives me crazy, especially when it's an idea the supers don't like.

My job is hot as balls in the summer and super cold in the winter. The building is about 6 degrees hotter than the outside, and its often times around 105 outside. Not to mention the fact that the nature of my job requires that I sweat and tire myself even if it weren't hot.

That one gets to me too. I've never told anyone in my office when my own birthday is (I don't know why. Just haven't), so I don't get to scold people into eating my cake :sadvaultboy:

I'll hopefully be getting a new chair myself soon. The problem is where my workstation is, there isn't room for a nice chair with arm rests and whatnot. Just want one who's swivel isn't broken so I can actually turn it to face the server.
