NO LOBBIES?!?! Good Golly

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 3:00 am

I pray to god that there is some alternative to lobbies. I do not want to have to join a match, hope that there enough spots open on my team, and then invite friends.

HELLO PEOPLE!!! Halo 2 invented the perfect ideal matchmaking system back in 2004!! You make a lobby, invite all your friends, then go into a match with all your friends on your team.

This severely damages my opinion of the game if it is a pain in the ass to play with friends.

(and not talkin about custom games)

Fireteams and friends list allows you to form groups with your friends and stay grouped with them.

I don't see the importance of a lobby when those mechanics are in place.

To clarify, a fire team is essentially a "party" formed by who you want. This is what you're looking for, right? Well, it's there.

Umm all 7 of your friends can just drop in your current game while you're playing they can instantly take the bot's places in game.

Okay thank god. Sorry I freaked out. I just thought it was going to be like Bad Company 2 where if I had more than 3 other friends online, I would have to search for a match with only a few people and hope that nobody else joined before I could get all my friends on my team.

how? I picked co-op, private, set a password, started the game and I'm in a team (full) and he can't get into my game -says the server is full. Iono, I liked lobbies just fine.

No lobbies are 100% better, but I guess this will have to do.

If it only worked like that. He has a point, what if he wants to play with his 7 friends....against humans. He cant. Unless he tries for hours, waits through multiple games, works out the switching teams aspect, and then doesnt leave that room for the remainder of the time playing.

The drop in/drop out feature is cool if you dont have friends you like to play with but to ignore those that do because you dont want to wait in a lobby? I would gladly wait that extra couple minutes to play with the people I enjoy playing with on my team.

Have to agree - This is the only thing about Brink thats pissing me off tbh.

And theres still NO clear answer.

I posted this on another thread

"My only concern is "What of the multiplayer / co-op" - Is it really as complicated as people are making it out to be?

I understand theres no lobbys - But how exactly does it work then?

Do you HAVE too have friends playing it- in order to drop in drop out?

Or can you "For example on Steam PC people" - Can you still select "servers" refresh, and join one of those games?

Its just becoming quite frightening how confusing people are making it all sound.

Co-op to me is most important/ "

So - How exactly do we tackle this situation for "steam" users....

You can't even call this an oversight, it was simply a dumb decision. It baffles me that they can talk about nothing but team play and then make it difficult for teams to actually play together. Every team game needs a lobby system.

The simple (and best) solution is to simply have both? Like I've said on another thread.... L4D had it sorted. You can find a game that hasn't started yet, risking a long wait but ensuring you're with all your friends. Or just jump straight into a game, but not knowing who you'll end up with.

Really quite annoyed about this from what I've heard so far. Nothing that warrants me not getting the game or anything, but I'm sure i'll get wound up plenty by this in the not too distant future.

i have to agree, this does seem like a poor design decision, but on the same token, it seems to me that alot of people havent found the fireteam, or whatever its called to make a "party"
im not sure how it works, i gota wait an hour before i can get my copy

Even though I knew it would be like this, I really do think its not very fair for people who want to create pre-made teams for 8 v 8. A simple feature would just be to have a sort-of party feature where you invite your friends to a party, and when the leader joins a server, it puts all the teammates in the server and on the same team.

So there's no lobbies at all? My friends and I are just completely confused right now. We have no idea what to do to get into a match together. We finally got into a match with other people but it put me on the other team. How do I avoid that? Like, I don't know, I'm immensely frustrated right now. It seems like a massive oversight that they wouldn't include some form of party system especially in a multiplayer-centric game. Am I missing something or is there no way to assure that you play with and on the same team as your friends? I gotta say, my first impressions are not good and the reviews I read seem to make a little more sense now that I actually have the game. If Splash Damage decided not to put in a party system to play with and stick with your friends then I can't see myself playing this very much.

Its made worse by not being able to change your character/weapons/abilities in or between games so you'll have to quit out and re-group every once in a while for that.
If Brink's multi was just a feature I wouldnt care.. but this is a multi focused game... it should have an ABOVE average feature set.

Does SD have a really small dev team or something? The game is simply not as polished and full featured as Id expect.

Yeah I agree with this. The game just feels in shambles right now and was not ready to be released. I don't know, I really want to like this game but as soon as I start to do so it's just another thing that comes up that just completely detracts from the experience. Oh well, lesson learned, I won't get this hyped up for another new IP from an unproven dev.
