Lol, Cannibalistic Nords...

Post » Mon Feb 04, 2013 1:30 am

I absolutely love the new lore and stories introduced in the game. One of the stories that stuck out was the Bone, parts 1 and 2 told again by Hallgerd. I do enjoy his stories, as they are quite interesting, especially the "cannibalistic nords" part in these two. Side note: Is it weird that I was offended by this a little, given that I'm not really a nord? Lol, anyway, good stuff. Any stories or lore that you guys liked, and want to discuss?

I'm glad they added that to Skyrim. I never read it in Morrowind but read it on UESP a couple months ago.

Yeah it's kinda weird that you were offended :P

Hallgerd has more books with his stories, they are always quite a good read.
Only one I remember offhand now is http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Hallgerd%27s_Tale but I know there is at least one more.

My personal ancestry traces back to Nordic culture, so I always play as a nord. Non-coincidentally, I get offended by anti-nord remarks. It's not just you lol.

when your hungry enough you can petty much eat any thing or try to any way.
in the old days when castles became under siege for along time and the food ran out, some times it did result in cannibalism.
I beleave there was cannibalism during the first crusade as well

Bone was in Morrowind.

And Bosmer have been cannibals since as early as Redguard, yet nobody seems too offended by that.

Yea, that one, and one about the archer who couldn't miss, and the daedra who was eventually killed by him. Vernacus and Berly or something like that.

Had no idea that was in Morrowind, lol. I thought it was new.

That's because no one cares about bosmer. I didn't get offended at the cannibal part, I got offended at the typical depiction of the savage nord thing, and the cannibal part took it to the extreme. I wasn't mad or anything, just a small moment of "oh no they didn't!" I found it pretty funny, all the same.

Is there a part three? It seemed to foreshadow another tale at the end, and I want more! Hallgerd's tales are always good.

It does bother me that the Bosmer race were ( are ) written to have been know to cannibals. I am hopping that it wasn't the whole the race of wood elves or that it was fasleiy written by historians.

Nah, that's definitely a thing, but usually only in Valenwood itself, since it's not allowed by their religion to eat Valenwood plant matter. Although according to TESO devs it's considered a very private, personal and spiritual matter. They only eat people in public during the Wild Hunt, and when they do that they aren't even completely Bosmer anymore.

And I'm glad they're this way. It's more interesting, and the worst thing a fantasy can be is boring.

My nord tried a taste of people but he doesn't like pork so he sticks with his mammoth steaks and nice cold mead...true nords don't dine on swine, that's why there's no pigs or pork anywhere in skyrim ;)

It's a thing for Cyrodiilic softies, that is. Oh, and Nords from Thirsk or Skaal village.

I think the ritualistic cannibalism of Nords and Bosmer is really neat. I think it fits good with the Nords culture of big eats (especially now with the Dragon eating Nord heroes), and I think it's pretty awesome how the typical "plant-loving elves" is taken to the extreme in that they would eat each other before eating one leaf off a tree in their precious forest.

Coincidentally I play a Nord and a Bosmer.

Actually, cannibalism amongst the Nords is what often wound up raising the draugr on Solstheim, contrasted from the ones who became draugr because of the Dragon worship. The ones on Solstheim were cursed with unlife for eating the flesh of their fallen, doomed to chase their hunger for man-flesh until the last day.

I actually started my first Bosmer...EVER, because of that!

I was reading through the lore earlier this week and came across that little jewel of info. The whole "Tree Hugger's eat meat" thing was brilliant!

One can't get too offended by Nords being depicted as savages. After all these are a people who consider a headbutt a sign of diplomacy.

Seriously Bosmer tastes good. The all meat diet, yum. Cover them in sauce and you have yourself a tasty meal.
