Lone wanderer or Courier?

Post » Fri Jun 24, 2011 10:24 am

Its simple. In a fight who do you think would win with the exact same skills and special attributes. Or with different ones. I'm going to say the courier. My primary character has become unstoppable. I just never felt that way with the lone wanderer. Agree? Disagree?

Its the same answer very time........... I made them all, they can not be stopped. They would know it would be a waste of time to even think of fighting each other. They just would not do it......

fallout 3 wasn't as focused on being as balanced as new Vegas is, thus there are more over powered items in fallout 3. the mirv alone can take out the courier. but still if they're both at max level then after the next two dlc come out then the courier will have a 20 level advantage.

Courier, he would use his superior message sending abilities to send the LW a box full of C-4.

The Courier and the Lone Wanderer are two characters in the same world with slightly different systems DT vs DR, perk rate, hit point rate etc. The many of the weapons the games share do different damages. So how can one possibly make a comparison until these differences are resolved?

Then you have DT vs DR. New Vegas reuses armor used in Fallout 3, but with DT instead. Now DR has an advanage as at 85% DR you can survive a fatman blast. That isn't going to happen with DT. So before the LW and the Courier can fight you need to pick a system for them to share, But once you do that they can be made as near identical clones.

So basically its like asking who would in a fight between two movie characters played by Chuck Noris.

I would have to say the courier i assume that if they did fight that the eastern Bos would back up the lone wanderer.
But any of the factions in nv could beat the Eastern Bos easily (even some of the smaller ones such as the fiends)

But if its one on one id say the lone wanderer considering the Capital Wasteland is MUCH more difficult to survive in, and that Benny owned the courier with ease.

I think there's enough remnants of the old game in the new, mechanics wise, that someone with some decent modding skill could easily make a LW and Courier in NV and have them fight. You'd have to change a few things like make a set of PA with DR instead of DT and put a few of the perks back to the way FO3 had them, but I bet this could be done. Any modders willing to give this a shot?

Yes but if you made a LW and Courier in NV what would be the difference between them?

ARE YOU MAD OP?!?!?!

If The Courier and The Lone Wanderer were to meet, the rips in the fabric of the time space continuam would be so great that it would bring forth Gozer the Gozerian and destroy the world in a second apocalypse :cryvaultboy:

Lone Wanderer is my all time favorite. However, if it came down to a fight between the two I honestly think the Courier would mop the floor with him. The courier is just more rugged and has a bit more fight in him. :gun: :toughninja:

Whoever got the first shot.

This. Both of these guys could deal a ton of damage, and both are equally capable of pulling out a Fat man. Shooting the other guy's weapon out of his hands first is key.

Considering the Courier could very well have Fast Shot, Quick Draw (fits in with the cowboy theme for sure), natural agility benefits (also improves all of these), Rapid Reload and has access to faster firing weapons, I'd say the Courier would get the first shot. He'd be able to shoot the Wanderer's gun away before he could react, and then he's got all the time in the would to fire away.

If we talk about close range combat, the Courier has far more close-range benefits than the Wanderer. Ranger Takedown, Khan trick, faster melee speed thanks to challenge perks, VERY devastating melee weapons (think the LW would either use a super hammer or a power fist, compared to the Courier's Pushy or Ballistic Fist) and Paralyzing Palm. Again, Courier would win.

Come to think of it, another issue is DT vs. DR. The Lone Wanderer uses Damage resistance, which for the most part, is probably superior. The Courier uses damage threshold. I can't remember how high the LW could get Damage resistance going, but I wanna say it was like 80%. However, hollow point bullets would be free for the Courier to use with full benefit, since the Lone Wanderer has no DT, so the Courier's damage might still come out rather high. Lone Wanderer could easily hit the Courier hard, but as I said before, the issue would be out-gunning the faster drawing and faster firing Courier.

Each character is different..

I'm guessing we're going with the implied characteristics by their surroundings to assume what each is like.

The Lone Wanderer is smart (son of a doctor, defused a nuclear bomb, figured out Project Purity's pass, escaped Trainquility Lane) and has been using guns since he was 10 (high perception and agility), but he was a bullied outcast in the vault (low charisma) prone to having everyone he knows and loves die (horribad luck). There's nothing to suggest he has outstanding strength or endurance, but we can assume his endurance is at least decent. The surroundings seem to imply that the Lone Wanderer is good at Medicine, Science (thanks to his dad and to them being commonly required in quests, small guns (knows how to use them since childhood), big guns (game just asks you to take and use that Fat man), and energy weapons (once the enclave arrives, it's all you ever see. Plus we have Mothership Zeta.), though it can be assumed he's good at a lot of things, considering his high intelligence. I'd say his SPECIAL looks like this:

3
9
5
3
9
9
2
(plus one to all of these thanks to bobbleheads)

The Courier is a tough son of a [censored] that survived two bullets to the head at point blank range (outstanding endurance) and not only that, woke up to find himself in the EXACT perfect position to get every major faction to kiss his ass, and the EXACT perfect position to take Vegas for himself. (outstanding luck) He also seems to have a way with words as no one gets anywhere without charm in Vegas and the Courier is personally sent by the major factions to negotiate and offer alliances to various groups (high charisma). The entire cowboy theme overtone seems to also suggest that he's quick with his guns. (good agility) However, there's really no reason to assume outstanding intelligence from him as he's constantly giving the option to say "wtf are you talking about" when the convo reaches a new level of intelligence, but there's also no reason to assume complete stupidity. Strength and Perception, we're never given any reason to believe they're outstanding, so they're also par or sub-par.
As for skills, the Courier would have to be as smooth talking as Benny (Speech and Merchantile), as good with guns as the NCR (small guns and maybe repair), and as dangerous and self-sufficient as the Legion (Unarmed and survival).

I'd see his SPECIAL looking something like this:

3
3
9
7
4
5
9
(+1 to all thanks to implants)

The only part I'm not sure of in there is why 7 charisma and 5 agility and not 6 for both. I chose that because while the need for charisma is obvious (Speech checks. Speech checks EVERYWHERE), the implications that he has agility are subtle (cowboy theme overtones the entire game, but no NPC comments calling the Courier quick with his hands or an exceptional amount of Agility checks).

Having said that, it might also be worth noting that the Courier is very likely followed by the Mysterious Stranger and Lady Luck. The Lone Wanderer is not.

Lone Wanderer.....because he has the cyborg perk, Harold's FEV strain on his skin, survived the Pitt, survived Point Lookout, and has +3% critical chance from being the snide survival guru.
