Longer Fire After-effects

I'd like to do something that I think should be simple, but I'm not really sure where to start looking in the CK and would like some advice from someone with more experience with visual effects. Essentially, all I want to do is make the after-effects of fireballs and dragonfire last longer. They light thatch and trees on fire for a short time and then they're gone (for performance reasons, I'm sure). But I think it would be much more dramatic to have the village or nearby trees in flames for at least a couple minutes after a dragon attack or a fireball duel, which could be achieved by just having those mini fires last a little longer - I think a lot of PC's could handle it.

Is this an "object" property (that is, does the spell spawn little animated objects at the target location that then deactivate themselves)? Is this purely a visual effect attached to the spell? Or should I be digging in scripts? I realize that all I'll probably need to change is a single number, but I'm not sure even where to start looking for it. Any ideas?
