No longer need Fus Ro Dah

Post » Thu Jun 14, 2012 12:53 am

This shout is probably the most famous one in the game and there are many videos based on it. But need it no more do I. I have found something better-I can just send people flying with my high Block skill. IMO, it's far more effective. For just a dash of stamina, you can send legions flying. I feel that ALL skills have a dash of OP in them and I have come to realize that this is it for Block. I'm loving it and it's sad that I only figured this out last week.

However, has anyone else noticed that the controls required to do so are....awkward? I play on the 360 and in order to send people flying I need to sprint WHILE holding my shield up. To me, that's nigh impossible to do for more than a few seconds because it is incredibly awkward on my hands. As a reminder, sprint is Left Bumper and shield is Left Trigger. I cannot even fathom how this could even be remotely ergonomic. I bet the PC users have no frustration.

I had to get that off my chest. My poor, delicate hands! :(

I have no trouble hitting LB and LR. Then again I can play several instruments, so I'm used to warping my hands into odd shapes...

Yeah, at least on my PS3 controller, I normally have my first two fingers of each hand resting on the L/R back buttons. Why would L1+L2 be hard?

(Ok, in the case of the DualShock 3, vs the DS2, they gave the L2/R2 "trigger" buttons way too long a travel arc. I wish it was like the earlier controllers where it was just a "press" rather than a "pull". But it's still not hard to hit both L1/L2 or R1/R2, as a basic concept.)

Middle finger on block, Index finger on sprint. No offense to you, but I don't find it awkward at all. This is coming from a person who uses their right Index finger to press the Y button to jump on xbox. I started that in Oblivion, after jump was moved from left trigger to Y from Morrowind->Oblvion on console.

Not that hard to hit both buttons...just use both of your fingers.

It's not hard to hit it, it's just weird holding it for periods of time.

Fus Ro Dah will allways be needed. There's nothing more awesome than Fus Ro Dah'ing an entire legion of bandits off of the bridge at Valtheim Towers.

I'm on PS3 and I have R2 as run and L1 block and R1 sword and I have no problem. It does not feel weird or anything either. The only thing that bothers me is that if you try to turn while running you just stop running.

I play on pc with the xbox 360 controller.

I'll have my index finger on the lb button and my middle finger on the trigger. If needed, you can always re-map the button layout via options.

I like using Fus Ro Dah to stagger mages and archers, so my character can close in easier. That is the one shout that I always have under favorites, and it's the one that I have equipped 99% of the time.

But why would be holding both for long periods of time? Surely you don't need to charge with your shield while outside of combat?

I usually prefer the become ethereal shout for my characters, helps them survive on master. The usual process for melee characters is drain all stamina, become ethereal, let stamina regenerate slightly, hit a power attack for 0 cost breaking ethereal, hit another power attack.

Nothing beats fus ro da when faced enemies near a cliff though.

Fus-Ro-Dah is still my preference. Especially since I don't play warriors much.

there is no odd feeling about pressing those two buttons at all o.o
My problem with Shield Charge is the delay before the thing gets knocked away to when you hit them with it, and how they go in the opposite direction.
with both of those, the people just start flying in the complete opposite direction I hit them with my shield because by the time the delay is done, I've passed them and they fly behind me o.o
