longest sniper shot

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 12:48 pm

heh my longest was also my funniest shot. I see 3 powder gangers standing around I go to shoot one guy(lets say 1000 yards) and hit the guy behind him another 50 feet away.

Whenever I get to the point where enemies show up in my sniper scope, they are dead.

I still haven't gotten my first sniper rifle yet. I'm kind of a little whiny [censored] when it comes to spending caps, and I haven't found any in a place where I don't die instantly. I know there are at least a couple at the bottom of Vault 34... but getting all the way down there is still gonna be a pain in the ass.

Hey, what stat combination do you need to get a critical hit with a sniper every time? I have luck 6 and the finesse perk, and the sniper increases critical hit chance by five. What more do I need?

Finesse adds +5 luck when it comes to shooting guns, though... at least that's what it says...

How does that sound like fun in the slightest? yeah in real life a sniper might aim six feet above your head knowing the bullet would drop into your skull, but in a video game that sounds like a major pain in the butt.

If you can play PS2 games try Sniper Elite....it's a blast having to sneak and aim properly to tag your target.

Weapon: Anti-Materiel Rifle

Location: NW ridge overlooking Cottonwood Cove.

Distance: Estimate - One mile (targets were only 3x bigger than the line on my crosshairs)

From that position I was able to pick off the majority of Legion soldiers (eight soldiers total) without being noticed. All sneak attack criticals. Three headshots, four torso shots, one limb shot (right arm). There were a few dogs as well, but I don't really count those. I really wish I had a map to display the location but I can't find one. Perhaps I'll take a picture to illustrate (difficult to do on my Xbox 360 however.)

This is true. Distance is one thing. Wind, drop, even the Coriolis effect should be taken into account.

No, no, and thrice no - this is an RPG. If you want to test your video game shooting skill there are other games for that.

The Sniper's Nest overlook? Thats not a mile. Unless my character can jog a 30 second mile.

No need to waste ammo on Cottonwood, either.
Just open the back door of the wrecked truck and you'll drop a bunch of barrels of radioactive waste, killing just about everyone in the Cove.

ever play BF BC2? sniping on that game is extremely satisfying as it is all based on your skill... hit a dude clear across the desert map when he was running down the hill... than his friend tried to bail to and i NAILED him and he did a backflip. man if there ever was a good sniping mechanism for FPS's it's BF BC2's... i might actually go get that game again jsut to snipe some dude in the face :D

Assuming I read what you said correctly, no. I was much further away than that.

Yeah I suppose you're right. I was just thinking about that. However it was at the max draw distance.

I have played BF2 and the weapon physics is one of the things I like the most about it. Snipers in that game still have it too easy. Those long range shots would be damn near impossible unless you were prone with a spotter. Kneeling just isn't good enough to pull off a shot at those extreme distances.

My longest sniper shot of all time was precisely the point where NPC's fade in (with maxed out NPC fade slider). I could only just barely see him, but I took a shot figuring I'd just fail it - and get a zoom in showing his head being blown off. This with a Scoped Varmint Rifle, using hallow point ammo. I was so damn proud of that shot that I paraded my way there with the sole intent of "Tea bagging" that corpse. :D

Does anyone remember how much of a pain in the ass that sorta-realistic long range sniper shot was in the first Modern Warfare?

Pain in the ass, I'm assuming my character (who's very skilled in guns) is compensating for all that junk for me so I don't have to.

It's still very gratifying to blow someone away from extreme distances, regardless of it being super easy.

The longest shots are when you can only see the enemies while you are scoped in....

That's nothing...
Spoiler
I took out Mr. House from the mouth of dinky the dino at Novac using Ratslayer and armor piercing bullets to get through the walls! :P ...not

Seriously, I never thought to pace off my shots. I like sniping, but not the long walk to get my loot. 50 yards and a silenced weapon is my preference.

Actually that could be a nice challenge. There could be some form of trajectory indicator to guide you, that is more accurate the higher your gun skill is.

I always wanted this in Oblivion. It was hard to manually compensate for wind and trajectory if you use bow and arrows.

Energy weapons would suffer no such thing, because lasers should be straight, like casting spells in Oblivion.

If you can see it, you can kill it. The games weak draw distance is the biggest limiting factor. Sniping is incredibly easy...no drop, wind, etc to account for. Just put the reticle on your target and squeeze away.

This. I almost feel dirty sniping things in this game.

There was a bit more skill required with the Gauss Rifle in Fallout 3, as the projectile tended to fly upwards and slightly right at long range.

You generally know you're shooting at long range when the target is only visible through the scope.
