Looking for a few mods.

Post » Mon Jun 11, 2012 6:44 pm

Okay, so I'm looking for a few mods to improve the gameplay in certain aspects and was hoping someone who knows what mods I am in need of could link them to me.

(I do not want "suggestions" like re-texture packs or anything like that, I only want suggestions to what I'm specifically asking for.)

* A mod that overhauls the leveling system to make skills go up faster. I don't have time to spend 150+ hours on a character and some skills like Illusion and Speech I barely get to use, so I want them to level up faster, and I'd prefer not to use console commands for it.

* A mod that makes every NPC killable. I don't care if I fail quests, if I want to kill an NPC then I want to kill it.

* A mod which makes races have their own unique feel in terms of passive and active abilities, like making Khajiit jump higher and stuff.

* If there is any mod that adds new skills with perk trees I'd love to see it.

* A quality mod that adds spells, I'd prefer not alpha or anything like that, I want spells that work and are balanced.

I would look through Skyrim Nexus myself but I get a headache trying to filter out the mods I couldn't give a rats ass about, which are 99.9% of them.
So if anyone know what kind of mod I'm interested in then please share it with me.
Thanks in advance. :)

You'll find that people will be reluctant to help you when you consciously tell us that you haven't tried searching yourself. Demanding us to do the work for you is just being lazy and rude. Try finding them yourself and come back later if you don't succeed. I'll give you a hint; all of those exist in some fashion on the Nexus.

http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=1175. You can individually tweak each skill's progress rate, the skill cap and perk gain. However it does require SKSE which seems to be a problem for some people

And i don't see demanding, just asking if we are using mods that do those things. Like i use the uncapper.

Balanced works with most Magic balancing mods and is far from alpha

Demanding?
I'm not demanding anything, people will post links if they want to and they won't if don't want to.
I can't "demand" anything.

And it's not lazyness, I could very well filter through the abundance of mods I have no interest in to find the ones I am interested in.
But I figure it would be quicker to simply ask if people know what it is I'm asking for here.
It's not about lazyness, it's about being practical.

I'm not asking others to "search for me", I'm asking others if they know what it is I'm asking for and they know how to quickly find it.
Like if you were to ask me for a mod, or several, for New Vegas which improved Goodsprings I'd be able to quickly hunt down three mods which I use myself and link them to you as I know what their names are and how to search for them quickly.

So choosing between wasting, possibly hours, looking for what I want for the game and asking if anyone here knows what it is I'm looking for.
Hmm.
I'll choose asking here.

Thank you, I remember having troubles installing the script extender for New Vegas but I'll figure it out.

Yeah, sorry about that; I agree with you there. Your words made me think you were just avoiding the incovenience of it all. The community is definitely a valuable resource. Just be sure to be grateful for whatever advice people do give.

That being said, I do recommend trying out the Tag Search function on the Nexus. It's been improved upon a lot and now is a great tool for only seeing the kinds of mod you might be interested in.

To make some of the races feel different, this might be of interest:

I was actually looking for a nice mod that revamps races to actually make them worth something instead of just being superficial. I also wanted racial abilities and powers to return to what they were in Oblivion and Morrowind. This mod overhauls races to make them stand out against each other and returns them to their Oblivion and Morrowind roots while keeping some aspects of Skyrim's racial system:

I haven't found a mod that better fits what I want and I have spent a while searching for one too.

Edit:
The mod that gloves posted looks very interesting too. I really dislike the fact that npc characters don't use their racial powers. It would make combat much more interesting. I wonder if it is compatible with the race overhaul mod I found though.

No idea if it works, I got the script extender, installed the Uncapper, changed the skill exp gained multiplier for all skills and changed Destruction to 250 just to see if it worked (and Block to 50) but it doesn't seem to be working, Destruction at it's low level should go up really fast but I can't see a difference.

Does it kick in later? Like, it takes a while before the scripts actually kick in?

I modify the perk gain, so for me it is easy to tell if it work or not, but no it shouldn't require any special steps or waiting to get it working, it should be running right from the start.

It does say in the Readme that using too high values will break things. Try a value of 10. I tend to use an average of 2, varying across skills I think level too slowly. Make sure you edited the INI not the readme (I've made that mistake before!) It's in Data/SKSE/Plugins I think, file type is configuration settings (depending on your OS)

It's the right file, gonna try out 10 instead, still, the others which were at 5 didn't seem to get any remarkable difference to them.
I also enabled it so that I got 15 in Stamina per level and 25 in mana (if I choose those stats) but it was still 10 when leveling up. :/

You don't need a mod for this. Just add this to your Skyrim.ini:

[GamePlay]
bEssentialTakeNoDamage = 0

Oh and I found out what the problem was, the problem was that I forgot that I need to use the skse loader and ran it directly from Steam instead.

[edit]

Which one? There are three .ini's:

Skyrim_default
SkyrimEditor
SkyrimEditorPrefs

Skyrim_default
SkyrimEditor
SkyrimEditorPrefs

The first one is the template the game uses to regenerate INI files. Never touch that one.

The second two I assume are for the CK, but I could be wrong.

That's an addendum to:

Skyrim.ini in C>Users>Username>My Documents>My Games>Skyrim

The races module of Skyrim Redone is the best mod for unique races by a long shot, remember to download the resources module too.

Just a heads up, when the 1.6 patch will be released, perhaps next week already, both SKSE and the uncapper will need to be updated before they work with the new patch, so you should consider setting Steam to offline mode during the weekend.
