I am looking for some EASY and unchallenging quests

Post » Sat Jun 02, 2012 6:51 am

I thought the fighters guild companions would be a good start, but I only got one Radiant Quest, and all of a sudden, they want me to become part of their most inner circle. I would rather start the game with some easy and unchallenging stuff, like hunting rats or whatever.

Everything I touch seems to turn into something BIG, like dungeons filled with hundreds of dangerous enemies or "Go and slay the legendary Draugr Murderboss Deathking in his ancient epic crypt, located under Tyrone's Mum's basemant!".

Around Riverwood and Whiterun - What really easy stuff is out there? Sure, I could randomly visit some dungeons and kill stuff, but a quest that does not necessarily involve travelling to the other side of Skyrim wouldn't be bad either.

Many thanks in advance!

All of the radiant job quests will be "kill the bandit leader/dragon/boss" in a random location. Those places will be filled with easier enemies, but there is almost always a more powerful "boss" at the end of the dungeon.

The bleak falls barrow quest is wel suited for beginners. Talk to the riverwood trader and to the jarl og whiterun.

There are some shorter quests when you ask around in the inns (like in whitrun) or ask others for work: like "kill the bandit leader at snowy snowmountain".

Yes, but what bothers me is that the randomly generated stuff from inns always seems to be tied to my level and is therefore quite hard since I'm pretty bad at gaming :-(

I guess the mages guild or Imperial army will also quickly turn into something BIG? I really liked starting with picking flowers or fighting rats or escorting people back in Oblivion or Morrowind...

For you this is bad news, but everything will be tied to your level no matter where you go. When you enter any dungeon, the enemies are generated based on your level and within a certain range. This means that once you're higher level, you may run into easier encounters, but at low levels everything will be either normal or higher than you.

I made the mistake, with my first three characters, of heading straight for a guild or faction and signing up, instead of just exploring the world and taking my time like I did in MW and OB. The College quests kicked my ass at lvl 3, TG got me brutally attacked by thugs at lvl 5 just for doing my job, etc...

I really wasn't interested in getting involved in town folks personal dramas but that's what you've got to do. Talk to people and pick up minor tasks like delivering notes or weapons - stuff like that. If you get a quest for the next town, walk it instead of taking the carriage. If you see a mine or dungeon on your way, save before you go in and if it's too tough reload and skip it.

Get into little trouble before big trouble. I did the first quest for the Companions and then walked away. I'm going to Winterhold now to join the College - I'll do that first quest and then probably walk away and find something else to do for a few days...

Little trouble before big trouble. See how that works out for you.

I know it seems daunting at the beginning to step into dark scary dungeons filled with vile monsters that may well kick your ass, but I promise you it never gets any easier :)

Wait, I mean, most of your income in the game will possibly come from storming dungeons and looting stuff from everything you kill, so the sooner you get used to it the better.

Sometimes, fighting human opponents can be easier than facing the undead at a low level, so maybe aim for the burrows rather than the caves and caverns in the area?

Fort amol is quite interesting to face early on in the game, it's filled with low level mages and they usually have various robes with various powers that sell for quite a decent amount of gold.

There are some fetch or delivery quests that don't require combat... for example, Farengar Secret-Fire has one if you ask if he is the only wizard in Whiterun.

@ Grappa

I'd recommend that you take whatever content that comes to you slowly and pay attention. Even warriors don't always race in head first into a room full of bad guys they can't even count. The golden claw quest can be done by a level 1 character, I know this because I did it. You just have to take your time at it.

The first quest I always pick up is the one in Riverwood for the Golden Claw because it's tied to the one in Whiterun for the Dragonstone and gets the main quest line started... if you choose not to turn in the Dragonstone in Whiterun because you don't want to start the main quest chain or deal with dragons yet, you can still go right up the hill from Riverwood and do the other quest very easily and the monsters never come at you in more than 2's if you're paying attention and learning your character's abilities as you go. Just carry the dragonstone on you until you're ready to start that part of the main quest and have random dragons spawning in addition to everything else.

If you're looking for something a little easier, try asking the people around each town you go to if they have anything you can help them with. That might be an inch by inch way to get used to playing your character... be the hero of a few small towns by helping kill local monsters, gathering goods and supplies or clearing out bounty's for the Jarls.

One of the only "unchallenging and simple" quests that comes to mind is the "Paint dries like your Eyeballs" quest.

This quest can be completed at any Inn, residence, place of business, or even the Jarl's Palaces in any city in Skyrim, but it is quite time consuming.

You have to go into your chosen location, and find a chair that faces or lets you look directly at a blank, featureless wall. After staring without blinking for four hours of real time (around five or six days of in game time), and it must be uninterrupted staring. After the four hours, a gentleman will approach you in all white garb, and will stab you with a small cylindrical object and your vision will fade out to black. You get the Achievement/Trophy "Comatose" for doing this correctly.

"Comatose" is a Tin Trophy for PSN, and is worth -45 Gamer Points on Xbox Live. The description states: "Successfully did nothing in Skyrim for enough time that your character voluntarily entered a medically induced coma, thus ensuring that he/she will never come to harm nor face any Quest too challenging."

*sigh*

Quests are supposed to be challenging. That's the whole point of a Quest.

I think sometimes readers post from a much more literal place of understanding than the original post came from. *sigh*

this isn't an MMO... breathe and be patient.

I believe the issue is to find less "in your face" ways to get used to playing a character before getting into a dungeon and possibly stuck in a loop of constant death and frustration. "easy" is a subjective word that some of us apply more negative meaning to than others of us.

Scathingly sarcastic and a bit mean, but yes I admit to lolling.
It can be scary to set off into this big massive world afraid of everything and everyone with no real idea of what sort of monstrous beast is going to burst out of the wall behind you next. This evidently isnt laziness on the thread starters part, more of a request for advice for a total beginner.

For example, there are some early on quests in the 'beginer cities' like riverwood and whiterun that are really rididulously difficult at a lower level.
It's been sitting in my journal since the first day I played the game, but at level 15 I've only just gone off to rescue that old guy who the elves were torturing in their prison. One would assume as it was a quest given early in the game it would be easy. But it's still damn hard!
Vicious bunch, those elves. That poncy armour is actually kinda fireproof.

I should have replaced 'easy and unchallenging' with something like 'unspectecular and not always like the fate of an entire city is in my hands ... again'.

Many thanks for all your replies.

Ask around the inns and marketplaces or farms/mills/camps you pass. Some of the quests you get may be difficult like the levelled dungeons but you'll also get asked to find things/people, deliver items/messages, or talk to people about something. I got the Hero of the People Achievement (do 50 minor quests) before getting very far at all in the MQ or faction quests.

edit:keep a seperate note of what the misc quests involve. When you have 20-30 of them in your journal those 1 line discriptions aren't much help.

Really easy in Whiterun would include a bullying kid...a woman who is annoyed by a man's attentions towards her, delivering some Salts to a shopkeeper, chopping wood, which also helps the local economy and your coinpurse...things like that. Just go there and speak with people and you'll find them. :)

Just go exploring for a while. Don't worry about quests. When I start a new character, I usually head into a mine first, kill some bandits. Then go hunt some wolves, and yea definitely to the Bleak Falls Barrow quest. Take a follower from Riverwood with you (either Sven or Faendal, depending on how you did their quest).

Wise words, especially about taking a follower from Riverwood with you. I could have saved several hours of frustration if I had done that. Bleak Falls Barrow was a piece of cake by the time I got there, not because my skills were high but because I thoroughly learned the mechanics of the basic game by having to reload umpteen times when trying to kill the three bandits holding the tower en route.

I just used two castings of Fury, and mopped up the survivor with Flames. I loves my Assassin/Mage!!!

Although you ask about quests, if you find them somewhat hard, maybe you should do what I have done with my latest re-started char., after playing the previous one up to the early 30s.
1. Don't take ANY quests initially. Just travel and explore without going into any caves or hideouts etc.
2. As you travel, continually Sneak. Even if you don't meet anyone, your Sneak skill will gradually go up. Also, as you sneak alongside the roads, behind rocks etc., you will see enemies more quickly and if they do attack, you can RUN as quickly as you can (and live to fight another day:) )
3. Take up Archery from the start. Practise often, even if you don't kill much at first. It levels quickly and gives you a fighting chance from a distance and you will find more arrows on corpses.
4. When you meet soldiers, follow them and eventually they will battle with bandits or StormCloaks or wolves etc. After the battle, loot the corpses, getting some good equipment and making some gold selling what you don't need. Loot everything you can, man or beast.
It's amazing how well you will do just simply living day by day and scrounging, looting, etc., until you have a good grasp of the game and have leveled enough to feel confident to take a quest or two.
5. Last but defintely not least: ENJOY ROLE-PLAYING YOUR CHARACTER FROM MOMENT TO MOMENT.

Just taking the quests to kill bandits and such are pretty easy and you'll most likely be pointed to a new area.

In many cities/settlements you can find easy quests which only asks you to took items from npc to another in the same city (and you get a few hundreds of gold for something so simple!).

If you enter a dungeon, the enemies in that dungeon are set to your level permanently. So when you find caves and other places, sneak in to them and back out. Later when you level up, these places will be easy to clear out.
