Looking for some new games

Right then, I'll be honest. I'm bored out of my skull. Now recently I've had this itch to play a good space sim game that's deep yet arcadey, I don't want to play something like EVE. I'm more looking for something similar to X-Wing Alliance. I already have both versions of X3 and the lack of direction just... Annoyed me.

Are there any games that are, essentially, Morrowind in space? In terms of story/freeroaming/direction?

Thanks!

P.s: I'd prefer a pretty game, either with graphics mods or otherwise. Not turning away the good old goldies though.

I should specify: I'd like the gameplay to revolved around flying ships. Don't know many space sims that are mostly ground, but you never know.

I've never played it, but http://www.gamespot.com/pc/sim/freelancer/index.html?tag=result%3Btitle%3B0 tends to get recommended quite a bit when people are looking for space sims.

Well, if you go into the strategy direction you could try Sins of a Solar Empire, which is a great game but lacks any and all direction in story, as the original copy (that I own) doesn't have a 'campaign' mode and is just random maps with random placement for your starting position. I don't really know many space sims, I've never played the Homeworld series, but I've heard great things about it.
